My 1800+ T-Bred can do 2ghz EASY at 1.7v. Thats with a aluminum hsf. I need to get a copper hs or at least a copper insert hs. Best $69 I have spent. From the reviews at newegg.com from others that got the 1800+ they are getting 2ghz easy also.

Jason

or got to nutrend.com (does it looks like newegg or what?)
and buy the 1800+ Thoroughbred for $61.

Hmm, I have the MSI KT3 Ultra2 MB, which would my board overclock better with? A TBRED or the XP 1600? Someone said something about V adjustments allow better overclocking of TBRED chips I think, does this MB support that?

My guess is a Tbred chip.

I have the KT3 Ultra2 also and just spent most of last night and this morning playing with my newly unlocked XP 1800+. I can't get the processor past 1.65 ghz. From what I understand all the Palamino core processors were based off of the max 2100+ (1.73ghz). So, in most cases, you'll never get a higher overclock than that.

If you go Tbred, I've read that people are getting the 1800+ tbreds go up to 2ghz. SO, it would probably make more sense to get a 1700+ or 1800+ for $10-$20 more and overclock those.

no matter what you do it will always drop....anyway there is a site that has them for 42$ + 4$ shipping

But the thoroughbreds do not have the special stepping core... will they still be able to hit 166fsb, though? I am curious because I am thinkin about buying the 1600+ and ocing the fsb. Thanks.

At 166 FSB this processor runs at 1743 MHz instead of 1433 MHz, a bit faster than an XP2000+ at default speed.
I remember the first I OC'ed it to 166 on my old 8K7A+ - when booting, the processor came up registered as an AthlonXP 2100+. 😀 Cute.

XP1600+ has been $43 + $4 S/H at AccessMicro for about a week now. I don't think they specify steppings however.

I paid $180 for a 1600+ less than a year ago and its already in CPU heaven. 🙂

You paid $180?? btw... newegg says this is the LAST CALL for these puppies at $49.

Also, you can buy other stuff at newegg and qualify for the free paperweight now...

I am currently running a purchased-at-newegg AROIA XP 1600+ at 1638Mhz (10.5x156) on a KT3 Ultra2 with no tweaks whatsover.... its not even unlocked. The PCI divider kicks in at 152Mhz. It will boot a lot higher. Currently, I am limited from going all the way to 166mhz by my PC2100 memory.

i wonder if i should upgrade my 1.4ghz 266 fsb @ 1.6ghz to this..... ??? Probably won't even notice any difference.
