Since the XP 120 does not come with a fan, I was wondering if you were cooling an AMD 64 processor thats overclocked would you need a fan or not. I assume you would but this thing doesn't come with one.. I looked at the pictures but can't figure out how you would mount the fan on top of the HS.
 
I have one. You definitely need a fan if you OC. If you do not OC, with really good case airflow, you might not need one. The fan mounts to the HS very easily and comes with clips and silicone strips to mount it. An excellent air cooled HS.
 
Like all Thermalright heatsinks, the XP-120 comes w/ 2 spring wires which are used to secure the fan to the heatsink. Do a search for thermalright heatsink reviews.
 
You *will* need one even at stock settings. It wasn't made for silent operation, though it's probably possible I would highly recommend against it.
 
I would try it (some review sites have accomplished it without a fan) and see what you get. Just watch those temps and dont let it go over 60/65C. I will look for the link/s where the xp120 was used without a fan. If you go with a low rpm 120mm, say 800 to 1100 rpm, you cant really hear it anyways and you are garunteed that at stock settings your cpu will be adequately cooled. good luck--post back.
