xorg.conf: recreate by running kudzu?

I messed up my display after tinkering with xorg.conf. I was using a widescreen LCD display at 800 x 480 and it worked fine. I hooked up a regular CRT and restored the origianl xorg.conf file (or at least what I think is the original xorg.conf), now when gnome comes up I have what looks to be an 1152 x 768 screen with the desktop constrained to 800 x 480.
I don't know what went wrong, is there a way of running kudzu again so that it wipes out all my display related info and rebuilds driver/display information?

There's probably a configuration program around there somewhere... xorgconfig.

Next time, make backups before messing with config files. It simplifies things. )

umm... no xorgconfig in FC4, googling didn't prove v. useful.... what package is xorgconfig a part of?

It's part of xorg.

ls /usr/X11R6/bin/*onfig*

sorry abt that, got it fixed -- i had run system-config-display before my OP but I didn't see a change.... I tried moving the toolbars in gnome a few mins ago and then they resized to the proper screen size... gnome qurikiness....

n0cmonkey i checed the X11R6/bin folder and this is what I got -- no xorgconfig
/usr/X11R6/bin/getconfig /usr/X11R6/bin/xft-config
/usr/X11R6/bin/getconfig.pl /usr/X11R6/bin/xft-config-i386
/usr/X11R6/bin/xcursor-config

Sounds like you're missing files then. Probably a linux thing.

not a linux thing, a redhat/FC thing. That is why I rarely use red hat.

It's a redhat thing.

They had a queer policy from around the 8.0 days of renaming utilities like the x configuration tools to generic names and since then they've kept up the changes.

It's very silly.

that is why I struggle to point newbie's to FC/RH. It's been nice to have Ubuntu around, as it's a well put together, easy to install/get working distro for newbs. ubuntuguide is decent and keeps them running for the most part.
