I'm really disappointed by the xoom (esp compared to the ipad2). the only plus it seems ot have is that it runs android. Screen, form factor, price, speed are all a bit worse. When you take into account 1/2 hte hardware doesn't even work (sd slot for example) well - why the freak is it $600 ? Oh well. Maybe the samsung pads will live up to my expectation; if not there is always the ipad2

Too rich for my blood. Give it a few months, after XDA finishes putting out some good ROMs for it, and after competition drives the price down. Might be worth picking up then.

I'm still a bigger fan of the ~7in tablets though, more portable.

I got an e-mail from Staples that's pushing the three new (two being unreleased) tablets... Xoom, PlayBook and Streak. The Streak actually seems somewhat interesting.

I wonder if Dell's showy UI will be enough to push their tablet? They certainly have a good price point by offering something similar to RIM but for $100 less. I don't think most users are going to care that the Dell's screen is smaller dimension-wise, because they're still both 7" tablets. It seems like it lacks a HDMI port, which some people may see as a detractor.

IMO the XOOM is a disappointment. I'd wait for the samsung tablet.

In the same corner as you here. Been thinking of acquiring a tablet for some time and i don't know why but Apple isn't the ting for me. And after reading so many NO on Xoom i am thinking seriously on that Samsung Tab

what's amazing to me is... why someone would want a device that nobody wants, and not want a device that everyone wants... across the Globe.

to each his own i guess.

i actually had a discussion about that with a coworker the other day

you could give me an ipad and i would sell it and buy an android based one even it it cost more then i sold the i pad for

Played with one of these and went right back to my iPad 2. I love Android but it seems better on phones at the moment. This is odd considering I'm getting tired of iOS but I guess not enough to buy a Xoom.

Perhaps that person isn't a sheep and is actually capable of making their own decisions.

I don't really understand that kind of mentality. So anyone that gets an iPad is a sheep that cannot make their own decisions? It couldn't possibly be that they want the larger app library, the iTunes/iOS ecosystem, and the larger third party support. No, they must be hypnotized by the Reality Distortion Field.

Why can't people on both sides of the aisle just agree that that they like what they like, without us having to attribute said decision to either sheepism or neckbeardism?

If you read the post I was responding to he seemed to imply that people shouldn't want the Xoom because it is unpopular and should instead get the iPad simply because everyone else is. There are many valid reasons to get a iPad but IMO getting it because it is popular isn't one of them and is an example of being a sheep.

Actually popularity is usually associated with longevity which makes it a very valid reason to purchase a product. It should not be the only consideration but is definitely something to consider.

Must have missed it, my apologies. Disregarding you as a target then, I would still argue that the 'all iOS users are sheep', 'all android users are filthy basement dwellers' mentality is still pervasive.

What's making me even consider an iPad right now is the fact that most of the apps I want are on iPad only right now. It's obvious that the iPad will get everything first for now and for a while until Android tablets get established.
