First let me say, I've owned many apple products and still do. We still use iphones, we have macbooks although I'm in the process of selling them.

The Xoom is by far a better laptop replacement then the Ipad could ever hope to be. The only drawbacks to the Xoom compared to the ipad 2 are:

Slightly thicker
Slightly heavier
Lack of apps (this will change quickly)

I bought the Xoom just to try out and figured I would take it back within the 2 week window. I'm seriously considering holding onto this neat little device. It tethers to my jailbroken iphone flawlessly. The web browser on this thing is amazing. If you are thinking about the ipad you are doing yourself a disservice if you dont at least check out the xoom first.

With all that said, I've considered getting and ipad 2 along with my xoom. I bought so many apps for the ipad i'd hate to see them go to waste. If Google would just get their ducks in a row for their next big launch they would take a nice share of Apples market share. They need to stop fragmenting devices, at least when it comes to their tablet.

So allow me to comprehend this. You are liking the XOOM because... it has a "better" web browser? Which, if I recall correctly, still doesn't support Flash and can't view nearly as many websites and videos as the original iPad?

Then, how is it better than the original iPad if you are just using the browser? I got to play with one at Best Buy, and I wasn't convinced the browser could be any more useful than the first iPad.

So... care to elaborate?

Get back to us when it:

Has Flash
Has a functioning SD card slot
Has 4G
Scales Android Apps so they work.

Fire up "Words with Friends" and let me know how that works for you...

Why do you think it cant view as many websites and videos? I haven't had any problems with websites so far. The OS is better than Ipad's. The multitasking is great, the customization is great, and its just as smooth as the ipad.

A lot of people buy the ipad so they can surf the web whereever they are. The point I'm trying to make is the XOOM does it far better than the Ipad ever did, or will in the near future. I dont see Apple completely revamping their OS to compete with honeycomb.

How can you say the browser isn't more useful? First of all on my honeycomb desktop i have a widget that has bookmarks of my favorite sites, it looks like a tiny mini browser and you can easily scroll between the bookmarks to choose your favorite website. If the browser is already open in the back ground, it will just add it to another tab. Safari doesn't even have tabs and it doesn't look like it ever will. You can also configure the browser to get rid of the back, forward, and refresh button and instead when you place your tumb on the edge of your screen a tiny semi-circle menu shows up allowing you to do those commands, plus a few others.

Its hard to get a great experience unless you actually sit down and spend an hour or two with it. Many things aren't so apparent if you've never used it before, which is something Google needs to work on. Also, did i mention you can overclock the xoom to 1.5ghz and its rock solid stable? :D

Like I said, I'm going to get an Ipad, and I will be returning the xoom to best buy to wait for the wifi version. But honestly, if the tablet world wasn't so dependent on Apple, I would just roll with a xoom. I'd like to be able to facetime with friends and family, which is one of the major reasons of me buying an ipad.

So you are gonna try and point out a non honeycomb app doesn't work with honeycomb?

I think people are failing to realize that google is going to stick with this operating system from now on. Kind of like how iOS is essentially the same as was when the first iphone came out. Only difference is honeycomb was made specifically for a tablet, and iOS was made for a phone.

Wrong. iOS was specifically designed for a tablet and then scaled to a phone.

You actually believe that? lol

I think Apple haters are stupid.

I think Appl fanboys are equally as stupid.

I'm not here to hate on Apple, they make good products.

Why do you think it cant view as many websites and videos?

Because it doesn't support Flash nor does it have a QuickTime plugin with hybrid HTML5 tags to view the videos that the iPad can.

For instance, I couldn't view any video in Engadget. I couldn't view any video on NYTimes. And those are the sites I visit the most. What good is a browser in 2011 if all it does is show you texts?

How can you say the browser isn't more useful?

Because it didn't view the websites I wanted to view properly?

Safari doesn't even have tabs and it doesn't look like it ever will.

This statement shows blatantly you have never used an iPad or any iDevice... as extensively as you have claimed. Dear sir. Safari has tabs. They are called "pages", but they are tabs alright. You can get third-party browsers from the App Store if you need more tab controls, the ability to download, and upload.

Those aren't tabs, and yes I'm very well aware you can get browsers that have them such as Atomic. None of them work as good as the Google browser.

It will have flash this month, its already confirmed the Xoom's shipping in the UK will have flash on them. You realize the ipad has a huge list of things that:

1. Didn't work
2. Didn't do
3. Will never do

We can nitpick all day. I'm sorry you cant afford things. :)

Why would you believe other wise?

The general consensus is that Apple wanted to make a tablet, but realized that just dropping that product onto an unprepared market, wouldn't do so well, so they opted to revamp the interface a bit and release it as a phone first, it gets more marketing, and into more people's hands, and then Boom, out comes the iPad, same interaction techniques, but more of them, and people aren't going 'Where's the stylus, why doesn't it run OS X', at least not as many as would be saying it.

It isn't like Jobs pooped out the first iPhone the day before they unveiled it, they had been working on it for years. One report I saw said that the iPhone 4 was in development for 2 years before it came out.

Its a phoneOS, simple as that. I'm betting it is vastly different then what they were going to do with thier initial tablet before they shelved it. I know the story, and I'm sure they took ideas from it. But you are fooling yourself if they took it straight from a tablet to a phone.

No one said that they took it straight from a tablet to a phone. We're saying they used the iOS that was meant for a tablet and ported it to a phone. But its roots are in the tablet.

the old ios was designed for phones. The newer ios versions not the exact same OS that came out when iphone did. they made a new ios version during ipad devleopment that had support for the ....guess...the ipad.

that didn't happen for Android, what happened was the industries suprise at how well the ipad was doing and they tried to scramble to get a piece of the pie...so they chose Android cause it was the closest thing they could use and now Google sees this and makes Android 3 work for larger screens.

It is the same on the surface. The next iOS will come to the iphone5 first, then it will be released for the ipad 2 sometime in the fall. But on the surface they are pretty much the same and function the same. So I dont really understand what you are trying to say.

Also I think we need to go back to one of the original gripes about the Xoom, it came without flash.

Have we forgotten that the Iphone and Ipad both came out of the box missing features?

Anybody remember multitasking? Hell, apple still doesn't do it right.

Drop the price by $250, and I'd be interested as well!

How aren't they?

None of them work as good as the Google browser.

You mean none of them is as good as the Google browser at being useless and laggy? Agreed.

It will have flash this month, its already confirmed the Xoom's shipping in the UK will have flash on them.

Does it have Flash now? Nope. Can the iPad view videos that the XOOM can't now? Yes.

You realize the ipad has a huge list of things that:

No, don't be sorry. I'm sorry for you because you can't afford another $200 for a laptop that works.

i'm saying ios was made to support the larger screen of tablets before they introduced it. The other companies just used a smart phone os that was not designed for the larger tablets.
i thought i said it clear the first time and was in response to some previous posts of that subject.

Also I think we need to go back to one of the original gripes about the Xoom, it came without flash.
flash is a poorly coded pos in reality. However its about compatability and thats what people care about.

Have we forgotten that the Iphone and Ipad both came out of the box missing features?

So did the xbox 360 and well, most every new tech product. whats your point?

Anybody remember multitasking? Hell, apple still doesn't do it right.
on what exactly? Mtasking works great on the ipad. perhaps you forgot to double click the Home button:whiste:
I do several things at once on mine. usually its listen to ipod, playing chess while i read the news13 app and browse stuff on saffari.

What Apple does is not multi tasking. Sorry
