Xoom and Atrix are both sales flop, who isn't surprised?

Typing this on my Atrix. It is a beast of a smartphone, and if you are prepared to tinker, it can be turned into a polished little gem. The beauty of android lies in its flexibility as almost every aspect of the os can be configured endlessly - which is clearly not for every one.I used iphones for 2 years and in the end had no complaints other than it just got boring. Its a bummer that the atrix is a bust because despite what some say, it is the pinnacle of smart phone tech right now.

But it's on AT&T

But it's on AT&T

Att is solid where I live on the west coast so sh!tty signal and dropped calls aren't an issue. In att's defense they are trying to deliver better customer service at least in my area, hiring good people in the stores and CSRs on the phone have been great. I started my android experience with a captivate and quickly discovered that if you aren't willing to put custom ROMs on it, its a piece o', so I returned it and talked to a CSR about it and they were happy to offer an Atrix for $125 and give me a $250 credit towards my account balance.

I am an ATT Android phone, but I won't touch anything that won't let me easily sideload apps. After a month and a half of Android, I find that is BY FAR the best part.

Atrix is a breeze to root and there is a fairly mature pseudo rom called gingerblur over at xda that is very nice. Like I said, for the tinkerer willing to put a little effort into it, the Atrix can go from a very decent phone in its stock form to an outstanding phone when modded. The locked bootloader is an issue for the more dedicated tweaker as it prevents the kernel from being modded among other things, so no roms based on different android builds are possible, but as it is, it is still a flexible platform. There is a webtop mod that allows you to attach the phone to an HDMI-in on any TV without the proprietary dock and a stripped down version of Ubuntu runs and you quickly see how phone/laptop convergence is charging down the road...

This google a break! Or motorola! Come on peeps, let's just all play nice. I'm just happy I got my money back for my xoom 3g!

ATT is on GSM, an inferior technology. It's like talking to someone on 16kbps VOIP line.

tell that to the rest of the world that uses GSM. i think they're laughing at the CDMA crowd here.

and who cares? 3G UMTS uses CDMA technologies and so does 4G LTE. You act like Verizon and Sprint are some sort of leaders. They had no choice but to jump to 4G LTE because of the limitations of CDMA 3G while all GSM providers are not in a rush yet due to HSPA+.

I'm talking strictly voice. Call quality on ATT/Tmo is inferior to Vz/Sprint. I don't think I've ever had a phone call with an iPhone owner where the call didn't go silent for at least a few seconds. "Wait what repeat that you cut out."

Exaggerations. That's an iPhone problem, and I've never experienced it. You blame shittiness on GSM technology without understanding that the phone, the carrier, etc all make a difference.

I picked the HTC Inspire 4G over the Motorola Atrix 4G when it came time to pick out a new phone for work.

I thought that the HTC Inspire had a more "polished" design when I tried it, and it was half the price of the Atrix on contract.

Had AT&T for 10 years in NYC. I've never experience dropped calls, poor reception or poor voice quality. I guess at&t must suck everywhere else in the country.

Makes me think about how Windows XP is still so popular. LOL.

MotionMan

XP is the best version of Windows from a user's perspective. If it was still fully supported.

Vista and 7 exist so MS can make money, and because media corporations want to control user's ability to access their products.

as a former iphone owner, the data part is awesome and the phone part is crap. the VZW iphone uses a qualcomm radio which is why it's better at voice.

Pretty much. The only reason I use Win 7 is I got it free from ACM.
But I still use XP on my game machine and laptop.

But the RAZR was what saturated the American market because it was the only phone out there. I remember TONS of featurephones being far better than the RAZR. I just thought it was a joke that everyone had one.

i miss my razr.
actually might go back to a dumb phone next year when my contract is over. And if i do, i'd like to a find a prepaid company that'll let me have a razr. that thing was built like a tank.

I went thru 3 RAZR's, a roommate went thru 2, and my ex-g/f went thru 2 as well.

My experience is not even close to yours. The thing was a piece of shit.

I was out there visiting a friend a couple years ago who had a dumbphone.. att cut out for him on at least half the calls he'd be on.
