Xonar owners chime in - ding! :D

I posted about purchasing a new sound card and didn't get much response, actually zero, lol.. so i went out and bought 2 and will end up keeping 1 I bought the Xonar DGX and DX I've installed the DGX and it seems to be decent for gaming - installed the low DPC latency package from brainbit.

How do these 2 cards compare for gaming?

I think pretty much the only significant difference between those two is that DGX has a headphone amp, DX doesn't. I have the Xonar DX and have been using it with the standard Asus drivers, very pleased with the sound quality with Dolby Headphone and EQ settings. Somehow I doubt that the headphone amp would make much of a difference but I'd still be interested in making the comparison... What headphones or speakers are you using?

I'd think that the amp only really comes into play with high-impedance cans or IEMs.

I hear the headphone amp is a pile of garbage and works intermittently.. that may be from trying to use the front panel connector.. ??? i don't know..

I never game with headphones on. I feel like the odd one, everyone uses headphones. Ha!

With the low DPC latency drivers a few features are disabled like GX ? don't know what that is, and a few other features.. the sound and system seems a tiny bit faster using the low DPC latency drivers. Then again there is so many factors in-between it's hard to say 100%

The Xonar seems better than my Xtreme Gamer card, I hacked the crap out of the creative card to play UT3. I even downgraded the 'MaxChannels' through the UT3 ini file from 32 to 10 to keep the drivers from giving me the 'ha20x2k.sys' BSOD error. Even with the PAX drivers it still crashed. I ended up using software AL from a different vendor, and installed ASIO software to help. It worked for the longest; never got a crash besides from instability from an overclock.. anyways enough of that garbage, I'm a converter

I have Xonar Essence STX, and I view it as a worthwhile purchase. The sound quality from my headphones is great, and with Dolby Digital Live support, I'm not losing anything by not having 6-channel analog outputs. I also appreciate being able to switch outputs on the fly in software.

I have the Xonar DG. It sounds awesome with my speakers, but I notice more with my headphones. It has given me problems though, such as it won't play audio through facebook video calls. It still works fine for everything else though including Skype. Otherwise I love it. I don't know if my system is doing much better, but I don't get any problems with my sound at all.

I don't think that the front panel output on the card is amplified, only the rear ones. I could be wrong though.
