Just completed my first Newegg.com Preferred Account order. It's a little present for my girl and I. The present part for me is I'm going to make her put it together (close by of course).

$70 - FSP Group FSP400-60GLN
$520 - AMD OSA175CDBOX
$105 - Epox EP-9NPA-Ultra
$160 - Mushkin 991492
$240 - Sapphire 100130SR

Sorry I've been keeping that last one a secret. Yes... Newegg had a massive stock of GTO2s while everyone else thought they were gone. Praise go to whoever didn't put a space between X800 and GTO2. I'm sure she'll enjoy the X850 XT

I sure hope that RAM is as good as I hear. Supposed to be even better than the OCZ EB PC4000. This guy sure got some nice results.

Do you think going from never have installed any hardware straight to puting a whole PC together, modifying a videocard BIOS, and overclocking a CPU is a bit too much at once? I'll be nearby to guide her, but I'm not going to physically interact with anything unless absolutely necessary. She's a hands on type of learner and she expressed an interesting in becoming a fully fledged computer geek, so I don't want to deny her any of the nuances that go along with that. I just hope too much of it doesn't go over her head.

Woo! Tracking number!

Damn! UPS did a lot better this time. It will probably be here this morning. And I ordered it yesterday morning. Thats a lot better than last time. I guess it's worth going from 3 day to 2 day shipping. The free rush processing helps too.

I forgot to mention the burner. It had to be ordered from ewiz though because Newegg ran out of black BenQ DW1640s.

Now it's time for her to stop using a pirated copy of The Sims 2. I picked up TS2 holiday edtion at costco so she has something to install right after loading up windows is done. :D

-update:

Well, it arrived, but without the CPU. Next

I'm not sure where xmas will be or if she will even want to wait till then. Being devoid of a camera (but now no longer under the employ of the DoD) I think I'll have to buy one so I can take pics of her with her new toys. Which I will post of course!

Might be if she's never done it before. You should encourage her to read up on some newbie guides to familiarize her with the innards of a PC while you wait for the parts to arrive.

Nice scores on the RAM, but getting 1GB sticks up to those speeds and timings is far more difficult.

Meaning she is his/her girlfriend. Like in online RPGs female avatars on AT are usually guys so I did the his/her thing. Why can't people just use their own gender, sheesh. Yeah yeah, I'm not a vulture IRL.

When she's totally pissed off at you for treating her like she's stupid, and the two of you aren't talking. Have her post here and we will help her troubleshoot the rig:)

a gto^2, over a card like a 7800gt for about 20~30 bucks less?
for a gaming pc?
sorry i'll be a fanboi. err wait. i won't.
that gto^2 for 240 is a poor deal/price.
should've went with a current gen card, 1800xl, or 7800gt which appear in similar price ranges,

Where can you find a 7800GT for 270? Cheapest I saw em was $300. And I don't do mail in rebates or crappy brands. And the cheapest I saw 1800XL is $320

xfx was on sale this past weekend for 275, but yes it had a rebate (26 bucks).

imho, still better then a card that might o.c. to something better. no o.c. is 100% and the gto^2 should cost 200< bucks, but its inflated because of the o.c. demand.

sorry just my opionin, when for a little more money you can get something thats warrentied to work.

Actually, the eVGA 7800GT (516) is $299 and on 11/30 Newegg had a $20,00 rebate for it ( an eVGA rebate, but valid only for that day). And i had bought mine on the 29th :(
So, they might do that again. I wrote to Newegg and asked if i could cancel it.

So ironic. I was thinking about this for a while and it's almost funny.

1. The hobby that is the most competition to my attention is this forum, so her posting here ever is unlikely. She shows very little interesting in this forum solely because I spend so much of my free time on it. I don't really care if my sim counterpart cheated on her sim counterpart with some sim hootchie. She doesn't really care about OMGWTFGAYCRUISE, peener flaps, or how a post in ATOT can get 10 replies in the time it takes to go piss.
2. I don't treat her like she's stupid. She's got more formal education and tenacity than I ever will. Her natural intelligence isn't really that strong in the engineering/electronics/computers fields, but by no means is she stupid. She happens to like being hands on with dead things. Which just happens to catch criminals a lot of the time. I don't think I could ever dissect people?s bodies all day long.
3. When she gets pissed off she gets frustrated. When she gets frustrated she gets horny. When she gets horny she doesn't stay pissed off very long. (I hope this is the most frustrating experience of her life ;))
