Well, it looks like my husband will be layed off for the holidays. They shut down his company for the next few weeks to save money. They say it will only last a few weeks. But it sucks major a$$!!!!

Atleast we kinda knew it was coming so we could plan ahead. But why does it always have to happen around the holidays!??!?!

:(

People get lazy and the economy changes its focus a bit in the holidays. How long until you're legal to work?

I assume he is a blue collar worker. This used to happen more frequently than it currently does. It sucks though.

I contacted the lawyer about that when we were warned about the layoffs.. and they said I wouldnt qualify. So it's a matter of getting my PR.. which wont happen for a while since we JUST got a letter saying they accepted his application to sponsor me.

Manufacturing

Hes a project manager for a company that builds ozone generators.

Most manufacturing jobs get extended vacations around the holidays. Hell, sometimes I wish I did (Don't even get Xmas eve off)

How log does PR take in canada with a spouse as a sponsor? I think it takes barely over a year in the US, and AFAIK it should be quicker in Canada! You guys could consider moving in with family (his) if possible, and you're not already, until the PR comes along.

Sorry to hear that. U.S. is really dying in terms of manufacturing. There are few industries left where it's economical to build stuff here. Everyone wants cheap consumer products, too bad the cost of them is that U.S. manufacturing jobs are going the way of the dodo.

Well we own a home. So we are going to try to hang in there as much as we can. Luckily we don't have a lot of debt except a car payment and a mortgage. AND his parents will definitely help us if we need it. As mine will too if it comes down to that.

Well, I do not know how Canada works (sorry. I am too wrapped up in my own little world. :p), but in the US he could apply for unemployment.

I hope you have something similar to supplement for those couple of weeks........

yeah, no kidding. The thing is that his field of industry is water purification for towns/airports/hotels stuff like that. Thats what the generators do. There arent that many company's in the same field BUT those that are around are eating the competition. I told him we could always move back to the states and live where i WANT to and he can work for a competitor but he didnt find that amusing.

Then he'd have immigration issues :) Still, with you being a US citizen he'd have to wait no more than 90 days before he could start legally working in the US.

Sorry to hear about that! I hope he finds a new job soon.

If he would have been working for this shoe company, then he would have gotten a fat bonus.
