Sweet! Thanks for the link.
I've been recently thinking about modding a satellite radio receiver into my computer somehow, but this could take all of the work out of that.

This is the best way to get into XM. The whole setup for the cost of a Delphi Skyfi base alone. This is a great idea. Once again, XM is miles ahead of Sirius. I would get one of these if I wasn't already setup for listening to XM through the computer at work. Sirius has the internet feeds, but they do not stand up to the sat feed.

Just as a reminder, the monthly of the service is $6.99 for radios #s 2-4. Get one and sign up your friends.

pretty sweet...with mp3's getting as risky as they are these days it may be a good idea to go back to the ol radio...now if only ur able to record as well...hmmm....

Is this any better than the 40 or so Music Choice channels I get over digital cable?

Don't forget the $10 month subscription fee......and I'll bet it'll get raised within the year.

Sirius offers unlimited streaming(from the web site) for subscribers so if you have it for your car...this is overkill.
Non subscribers are limited to 20 minutes.
Broadband recommended (by me).

Now see it would be cool if XM branched out and started offering an internet connection through the XM radio technology. Sure, the ping would blow for gaming but it'd sure make connecting to the internet a lot easier for those of us who take our computers traveling.

Incidentally, XM and Sirius are godsends for people who live out in the boonies with no way to get any decent radio. (unless you like listening to AM radio... bleagh)

I don't think so.. don't think they can afford to lose any customers..

I got XM during the Delphi/Best Buy coupon praise this past Chirstmas and I love it. However, Sirius has my respect and interest now because they have an entire talk channel dedicated to Gay & Lesbian issues. That's really cool...

Where do you mount the antena? do you have to put it outside? I know satelite works by line of site so you couldnt use it like a radio antena.

I own a Delphi unit, and don't really see the purpose of this? All I had to do was purchase the home kit and run it into the line in on my audio card...the benefit of the home kit though is that you're not bound to using it just on a PC.

Now if Delphi would fix their friggin FM Mod problems so I could actually enjoy XM in my car (which was of course my original intent) it would be a great purchase. Right now, it's just $10 a month I'm throwing away. WoooHooo!

My XM Delphi home kit works great with the antenna sitting on top of my monitor. You don't have to put it outside.

This will go away, if Sirius ever sells a portable device. XM has portable devices like this one and the Skyfi, streaming on XM would be overkill. Streaming quality does not stand up to sat.

Well, digital cable music channels are great if you like Muzak. I have had the music channels on DTV for years and they bore me to tears. XM actually has DJ's on some channels. The TV music channels are a loop, XM is more like conventional radio, more personal.

Actually it just went down. Multiple units went down to $6.99 a month. They also have yearly contracts for a discount. The price will not be going up. XM is already $3 cheaper than Sirius.

Yes, if you have the Skyfi you need power. This thing is powered via USB. Although rather cumbersome with three seperate units (XM PCR, Laptop and Antenna) this combo would be rather nice for computing and listening to sat radio in the middle of the desert, or camping in the mountains.

No direct line of sight needed. I use my boom box in the center of my house about 30' from the nearest south facing window and no terrestial repeater signal. The sat signal is very strong. If you use it near one of the many repeaters that XM has, you can get XM in the middle of office buildings. I have picked XM up in the middle of parking garages. I love XM.

You can use this thing like a radio antenna. If you have a south facing window, you are set. If you have a home with composite roofing you are set without the window. The signal goes through composite and shake roofs just fine, tile roofs seem to be more difficult. I am amazed with this signal. I always get a signal when I want it.

I use my home antenna in a room with a North facing window and get great (3 bar) reception with the antenna sitting on a shelf in the corner of the room opposite the window. When I use the Delphi boombox in the basement I can usually get a signal anywhere just by pointing the antenna the right way (although placing it near windows is quicker).
