Do either of those guys have enough subscriber base to stay in biz?? I'd like to get one but wondering if either/both are just a flash in the pan and will stick us with usless boxes if they go out of biz....

I have Sirius and both services have their strengths. There are certain music areas where Sirius beats out XM and same goes for vice versa. Myself I bought Sirius for the Hard Rock, Techno and the sports. Hands down Sirius wins in the sports department with NBA, NHL and they will be broadcasting the NFL games for the upcoming season as well since they have an exclusive deal with the NFL. I suggest going down to a location where they have both setup and see which has more of the music you like. You can also listen to live streams of sirius by going to their website. Price wise I do believe XM beats Sirus although Sirius has some options that I don't believe XM has currently. Namely you can pay $500 one time for a lifetime subscription and they currently have a promotion where if you buy an annual subscription you get 3 months free.

Wow...never thought I'd agree with you on any topic, but Sirius is stretching out at a good pace (plus XM is 30% ClearChannel  son's of biotches)

really depends on what you like to listen to.

check out their programming lineup's on their website, personally, i'm more partial to xm and i've tried both out.

iirc xm has been around for 5+ years, they just starting going public with their service in the last couple of years though. they just added weather/traffic channels for all the major cities they have ground repeaters in. they are also expecting to be over 200 channels of commercial free programming this summer. xm radio (xmsr) seems to be doing good as a stock, siri has been a popular buy as well. hertz or one of the car rental places has started to offer xm service in some of their vechicals as well.

www.clubxm.com

you can ebay brand new systems with everything you need to install it into your car, shipped for less than 150.

I doubt after launching a satelite into space they would just fold. Too much of an investment.

Isn't that what happened to the main satellite phone company, after they launched like a dozen satellites, at a cost of billions? I can't recall the name of the company, but no doubt someone will remind me.

I love my Sirius!

I listen to both of them at work all day long (i work at circuitcity) since Road Shop demos the units in the store and we consistantly turn up Sirius and turn down XM. Better programming and SQ....

Then you'll get Sirius since Clear Channel is a major investor in XM.

Damn! Beat me to it! I am getting ready to buy a new MP3/Satellite receiver for my car and I am going with Kenwood / Sirius. Part of it is because of Clear Channel.

BTW, I think you can get Sirius hardware free if you pick up a Kenwood/Clarion HU and pay for a year of programming (this was in Crutchfield).

Howard Stern has mentioned on the air that he would like to go to Sirius, over XM because (and he said it) he doesnt want to deal with ClearChannel. It also cause the stock price to jump hehe.

XM has the subscriber lead, but they DID launch first too. I doubt either will go belly-up any time soon.

Not to rain on your parade, but remember Iridium - 66 sat's I believe, and they went belly up bigtime.

Edit - Ooops, didn't read far enough down.....Don Vito already mentioned it.

Iridium (spelling)..was the sat.phone company supported by Motorolla (dang I wish I could spell)..that went broke after launching 20+ low earth orbit sat.'s...it was sold for pennies on the dollar and leased to the us military...

I've heard otherwise.

Basically, both of are statements are meaningless without conclusive proof

I went with Sirius because I liked the hardware better, and I didn't want to support clear channel.

I'm quite happy with my decision.

Not everything is going commercial free on XM, just the music channels. They are adding in weather reports for major cities. Only other thing I know of is they are dumping a bunch of spanish channels and putting some other new channels in.
