I live/work in the Philadelphia area and have Sirius.

XM reception is far better then Sirius. In my office people in the middle of the top floor get better receotion then I do and I have antennas in 2 different windows.

The signal regularly cuts out on Route 422 and that area is relatively flat.

I had Sirius for about 3 years and recently switched to XM when a new vehicle came equipped with the hardware.

From a music standpoint, I like the channel diversity of Sirius better. I'm a hard rock/metal/alternative fan. With Sirius I had pretty clear lines of Metal/Hard Rock/Alternative/Classic Rock.

With XM there's liquid metal and then theres like 4 other channels of various types of alternative with a little hard rock mixed in. Sirius had Octane which was pretty specific to hard rock music and was my channel of choice. With XM the best thing there is Squizz which is a half breed of "heavy alternative" with a bit of new rock tossed in. Then there's Fred, Lucy, and Ethel which are 4 other channels that make up most of what Lithium included on Sirius. Boneyard also has nothing on Buzzsaw.

Sirius just segregated off the variety a little better.

That being said, in my limited exposure to XM (3 weeks), I feel like their playlists are deeper than Sirius.

Overall I think I'd rather have Sirius, the NFL subscriptions put it over the edge. I could give two craps about Stern.

Huh? Where? I live in KOP now, went to school in philly, and go back home to Reading often...my signal never cuts out.

I live in Central, IL and the XM reception is much better over what I had with Sirius. With my Sirius setup (Starmate) just going under an overpass @ 65MPH (less than a second) would cause the signal to cut out. When I pulled into my garage it would die the second the antenna lost sight of the sky even though it was on the back end of the car. My XM antenna is on the front of the car and I can be parked all the way in the garage and it will still work.

You likely have an XM repeater in the area.

Definitely Sirius. You get Bubba the Love Sponge, Howard, and blue collar comedy channel (those three are worth it to me by themselves). Plus you can pay it off for a lifetime for $499 (which is what I did).

I heard that you can only transfer your "lifetime" membership between three radios, and they charge $75 for each transfer. That would worry me, considering that these things are normally kept in your car and they might get damaged or stolen.

Thinking about getting one of these two, as I drive 45 mins to work everyday. I listen to Am radio a bit, but I often lose reception as I get closer to my work place. I'm looking to get one of these that I can hook up in my car, but don't want to have to tear up the dashboard to install it. I drive a Ford so I'm assuming there are car kits that can just be plugged into my existing radio.

They are the same company. Good god, people.

I thought they merged?

Yeah, same time Apple and MS had their big merger just before Lowe's and Home Depot teamed up.

Uh, Sirius and XM are trying to merge. They announced so about 10 months ago, they are just waiting on government approval.

Yeah man, mcdonalds and bk too.

WTF is wrong with you?

Dude I know, I was talking about it with a buddy of mine when he mentioned the Coke and Pepsi merger plans.

Your weak attempts at humor suck. Stick to your day job idiot.

It's not humour, it's embarrassment at having to sit down.

Not a big deal to me. My radio is removable, just like a lot of GPS navigation systems, and I take it out of my car when I park it for any length of time.

As far as them getting damaged, that is not their fault, it is the users.

I myself do not count on something being stolen when I buy it.
