Which one should I use to play my DIVX files? I am not sure because they both seem good (though i'm not sure if Xine will play divx since it doesn't say) but I'm looking for one that works with default RH9 (Gnome I'm guessing?) and is the easier to setup

or if one is harder but is much faster I would go through some work to do it :)

mplayer usually works a bit better. Make sure and install the win32 codecs. I use xine sometimes because I like its file browser.

I like mplayer better. Thought you better try to compile it yourself (I'm not sure does it have descent rpms).
To compile you'll need libgtk-dev and xlibs-dev, I'm not sure how they are named on RH, also download one skin and w32 and fonts :)
It doesn't install/has them by default.
With w32 codecs it plays anything I ever tried.

I've only had 1 issue with the debs they make and it was easily worked around, I wouldn't imagine the RPMs would be worse.

I can't really testify about red hat's rpms, but I could never get any of mandrake's rpms to work. However debs worked flawlessly as soon as I installed them :)
