I am using an Vendetta 2 basically same cooler; cooling My 9550 @ 4+ghz and realtemp says 18-19c normal use, sometimes a degree or 2 higher. max temps around 30c. CPU is at 1.2v though.

Core temp reads about 4-5c higher; however I do not feel much if any heat if I touch the base of the cooler, so either way is running very very cool.

Will easily cool yours; nothing to worry about. I am also currently using push pins, will be changing out to screw/spring mount today

Impossible...unless your ambient air is 15c or so. It is impossible for an air cooler to get lower then ambient...it's in the physics.

That's not unheard of. In all honestly, most OC'd quads will run in the 30-40c range at idle, but remember, quads don't really report an honest idle...just worry about the load.

Nice, I'm so glad I found this thread! Good info here, fellas. I bought and configured a Q9450 and Rampage Formula last fall. I didn't (initially) expect to OC, but I couldn't help myself. It was just too damn easy in the BIOS. (selected what CPU spec to OC to, which was QX9770) After that, everything was gravy. I had to set some things manually to get my RAM to run at 1066MHz, but that took about 2 minutes of tinkering.

Anyways, my idle temps are around 38C at 3.2GHz/1600MHz FSB but the loads do hit into the 80s. 😀 Additionally, does anyone know why the ASUS Probe would report a CPU idle temp of 38C if a program like Hardware Monitor that itemizes the core temps says a different story? HWMonitor reports an average idle temp in the 60C range while the ASUS PC Probe and BIOS will say ~38C. What gives?

Ugh - just so happy I don't have to rip apart my motherboard to bolt down a new HSF to lower my load temps! Woohoo! 😀
