XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 or Scythe Ninja 2 ?

I'm thinking of these 2 hsf's for my new build.

The Scythe seems a little difficult to find.

Anyone have opinions one way or the other about these?

Would like it to be quiet even at load but the most important thing
is that it get the job done.

Getting the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P and the E8400 Wolfdale and planning to oc.

I don't know about the Ninja but installed the S1283 last week. Max fan rpm seems to be around 1400rpms and I don't hear it. Right now it is zipped tied to the HS until I have time to put in the backing plate. then I will install the rubber fan mounts.
The S1283 is much quieter than the Arctic Cooling 7 Freezer Pro it replaced. It holds my OC Q9550 to 50c max when running Prime95 for 17 hrs.

is the backing plate the "retention bracket" that you have to buy separately?

Do you have to get behind the mobo to install the plate/bracket?

I'm guessing yes, and thats why you haven't done it yet.

I've also recently replaced an AC 7 Freezer Pro with a Xigmatek S1283, can vouch for its cooling effectivness.

I did not buy the optional backing plate (struggled to find one in the UK) but installed fine using the standard attachment which is the same as on Intel Stock HSF's.

The Scythe Ninja 2 is massive and is slightly difficult to install. I would think the cooling efficacy of the Xigmatek would be higher due to HDT but the Scythe comes with a 1000RPM fan that runs decently well and keeps my Q6700 @ 333x9 at a good 55C load.
