so, looks like i landed a new job as a part time programmer. Part of what they want me to do involves some web based stuff that i've never worked with. Does anyone know some good resources to get started on learning XHTML, CSS, XML, and JavaScript?

Agreed, w3schools is the place to start.

Once you have the fundamentals there's some great articles on alistapart with more of a design approach
