So, Sept 04 = X700/6600GT
Jan/Feb/Mar 05 = XGI product.
That means they will be at least 3 months late to market, maybe up to 6 months late. By which time, nVidia and ATi will be probably leaking specs for their refreshes of the products.

I actually hope that they will be able to compete with nVidia/ATI, prices will drop, every company will shows us its best to get to the top, and we, as consumers will benefit from this war.

XGI just doesnt have the resources or talent to compete at the high end, im glad to see they are trying to chip away at the more lucritive markets to bring in some revenue.
The only way i can see XGI actually pulling ahead of ATi and NVIDIA is by dramatically increasing their R&D budget and team, which they cant possibly afford after their "grand opening flop" with their last card.

Clock speeds should be similar to the 6600 series, but rumor has it that there's no AGP version planned at all. ATI is really shooting themselves in the foot by not making new gen AGP cards (aside from the X800Pro) available.

XGI needs to be concerned about the low-end market, and integrated market, THAT's where the lucrative cash flow/return is. ATI and nVidia have the middle-high end markets covered, not to mention they have more resources, and experience.

Former Voodoo5 owner here...
Dual core doesn't mean sh!t if they are crappy cores to begin with.
Maybe they'll even support anisotropic filtering this time around

X700 = RV410 = 1/2 a R420, just like the 6600GT is "1/2" a 6800.

Tha'ts a really crappy time to launch new cards. By that time, it will compete with the lowend of ATI and Nvidia when they release their new Gen Cards.

What a bunch of jokers over at XGI. "Still hanging in there." Yeah, they're still in there because their last generation was such a success, ROFL.
These guys are such great talkers; they make ATI and Nvidia's paper launches look great.
I think, to save everyone the trouble, XGI should forget about the desktop market and focus on another lucrative market: they should be the exclusive provider of GPU's for the Infinium Labs Phantom video game console!!!
Then they can just blame eachother for the lack of any concrete product! You can see the headlines now: "Infinium blames XGI GPU shortage on Phantom unavailability." Or "XGI to ship 3 million Volari chips to Infinium Labs for new vaporware console."

XGI should probably aim lower. They would be better off trying for the low-end market. If they could come up with a ~$100 DX9/SM3 product that's gives a good boost over the 5200's and 9200's (not hard to do), they could get their foot in the door, instead of it hitting them in the @ss.

I think you guys are being a little overly critical on XGI. If they can compete successfully in the low-end/OEM market, they may eventually be a real alternative to nVidia or ATI. You have to remember that ATi used to really suck also in terms of high-end performance, but they had a revenue stream because of their low-end and OEM deals and now they have some really fast cards and the a deal with M$ for the Xbox2. In the heyday of 3dfx would anyone have ever thought that ATi would ever build the fastest cards around for almost 2 years in a row? You can't predict what will happen in this industry, and at least there is another player trying to enter the market.

Heh, fair enough.
Anyway, back to the OP, I don't think XGI is so much "back" as "still managing to be not-dead for the forseeable fiscal quarter". I don't see them sticking around very long.
