XFX Radeon HD 4850 512MB @ 89.99$, free shipping, no rebates

Hmm, seems a decent deal. Any input about upgrading from a pair of HD 3870s to a pair of these 4850s with the system in my Sig? I have Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP (1920x1200).

Ya I temporarily ran 3870 xfire before moving to 4950 xfire and with the e8400 I was using in that rig at the time at 4.0 ran great and was a big jump up. I may pick up another at this price!

Damn. Now that's how everyone should have built the 4850 from the beginning. I wonder how much cooler this one runs?

Be aware that as far as I could tell this model XFX 4850 does not support PowerPlay. At least, it didn't reduce it's voltage or clocks when idle in 2d mode which is what I believe PowerPlay is supposed to do.

The one I had (exactly the same model number with Catalyst 9.6) stayed at a constant 1.26v with 625/1990MHz clocks, didn't change regardless of load. Coming from an X1900GT I was greatly disappointed how much heat it would generate when idle (although the cooler did work well, at least).

when did you buy it? it was a known bug in early models that was fixed in later firmwares... contact XFX, they might be able to help you fix it.

Interesting. I got mine three weeks ago from ZipZoomFly, but that doesn't mean I couldn't have got an older revision. (I was having trouble with bluescreens and opted to do a refund versus exchange so I can't check the firmware. Too bad.)

A reviewer on newegg said something about incompatibility with DX10 and 1080P..does anyone know anything about that?

Go for cards with more vram at that resolution.

specifically, get 512MB at this resolution. More is not really needed... although... maybe for xfire.

Not sure, but I run 2x 1920x1080p monitors and never had a problem with one of these. Going for a 2nd.

Deal is dead.

ZZF has same deal but comes with a game and can get 2.5% with Bing.
