XFX 7800GT w/490 Mhz core coming in the mail soon. I got it over the BFG/eVGA offerings because those don't watercool, they have a cold bug that makes them go slower. I was a little worried about the rep XFX (which watercools the 7800GTX just fine) seems to have but threads like this make me feel much better about the purchase. I'll be running a dangerden watercooling setup on an msi neo4 platinum.

Could you link to a place where you found this info? I watercool everything and planned to go who I always go with BFG, but if that's the case I may have to switch to XFX.

Also be sure you bench on air first, get some scores written down... to be sure it's not doing the same thing after you slap your block on it.

Thanks

Lots of people on this forum seems to have major issues with XFX. I really don't know if everyone has actually had issues with an XFX card personally, or if they just feel that way because they read about a few others who have had issues. I'm guessin the latter. I have personally only had issues with one PNY card and that's about it. Every other card and manufacturer seem to be about even.

Got a 6600GT 2months ago, came DOA. RMA'd and got another one DOA. Sent it back and exchanged for a Gigabyte and it worked great. I will never buy XFX again.

I do get aggrevated when people go on rants about how crappy XFX is based on what they've read from other people - which may or may not have been based on yet another person's comments. I don't know if I've read anyone here yet with actual negative first-hand experience with XFX customer support. I'm sure there are some, as the same with every company. But the second-hand (or third/fourth-hand) bashing of XFX gets very old very quick.

1. As a previous XFX owner I have to say I was initially tempted by their low prices. Then I learned that my time, frustration, and peace of mind were worth far more than whatever price difference there was between their crap cards and good ones. I've NEVER had a video card come defective out the box before (I buy a card a month on average), except the XFX. Running 3dmark03 showed glitches all over the place.

2. Lazy mofo. If you don't remember seeing why people hate XFX so much, do a search. There are PLENTY of first hand bitching about this company. For instance:

Coldbug report with thread goodness!

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/archive/index.php/t-52469.html

-Sorry not to get back to you earlier zebo. Anyway, I already waterblocked the GPU so I won't be doing any air overclocking and testing. =/ But I will let you know what I get this thing upto once the cpu waterblock comes in this week.

Also, I tested the GPU already and it works fine and came with BF2! =)

Had it not been for the cold bug, I too would have gone with BFG over XFX based upon reputation.

If you do run the xfx 7800GTX on a waterblock, note that the ram on the card (I don't know if this applies to all GTX's or not) is on the top and bottom of the card. So every other chip is upside down. Anyway what this means to most of you with waterblocks built for the 6800GT/Ultra (vs. Universal) is that you might want to keep the back plate on to help dissipate the heat better or use ram sinks for the bottom chips.

I see a lot more defective XFX cards come across my desk than others.

However, that being said, XFX is also one of the most common cards i see because they are the most widely available, and usually the cheapest.

I dont think their quality control is top-notch, most of the problems seem to be related to HSF seating problems.

I have a 6600GT AGP. My problem w/ the card is that any driver's that came out later than the 77.30 (the ones to play BF2) won't let me play video at all.

It's not the washed out bug that you just fix by using color correction, it actually causes my entire CPU to try and view a video. I have to ctrl + alt + del and close it and when i do that, it says my CPU Usage is 100%.

Sent an email to their customer support and they just told me to use Driver Cleaner and try out old drivers, but i get low fps in BF2 badly if I keep my old drivers. So i've been forced to give up watching videos and stuff on my PC...:(

XFX now offers a lifetime warranty for you and the person that buys the card from you now. I would like to see more AIB makers than just BFG and XFX offering these kind of warranties.

XFX is excited to announce another industry first: The XFX Double Lifetime Warranty! Now you?and your card?s next owner?are both covered by the XFX ?shield? of protection. Should something go wrong with your Series 6 or greater Graphics Card, and you?ve registered the card with us online, we?ll cover the cost of repair and service?absolutely free! And, should you sell or transfer ownership of the card, the same service applies to the next owner, as long as they register the card with us online.

Now, it?s all fairly simple, but here are the Double Lifetime Warranty specifics:

1. The XFX Double Lifetime Warranty goes into effect once the initial purchaser (owner #1) registers the product with us on www.xfxforce.com. At that time, XFX promises that the graphics card purchased (Product) will remain free from any defects in material or workmanship for the lifetime of the Product, as long as the Product is used properly.
2. ?Proper Usage? is defined as normal wear and tear. Should the Product be modified or damaged as the result of overclocking, tampering, alteration, misuse, abuse, power supply, power application, or repair by other than XFX the warranty is VOID.
3. Other situations that VOID the warranty include:
* Damage to the card upon installation
* Damage caused by software or hardware incompatibility or by motherboard incompatibility (if other than XFX software or hardware).
* Was not operated in accordance with XFX specifications, instructions or technical support directions.
* Physical damage to the PCB, GPU or components
4. Additionally, third party products used in tandem with this Product are not covered by this warranty.
5. Finally, Points 1-4 also apply to the Product's second owner (owner #2). In order to be covered by the warranty, the second owner will have to register the Product with us online at www.xfxforce.com just as the original owner did.
6. If the original owner did not properly register the Product with XFX, the warranty is VOID for both the original owner and the secondary owner.
7. If the original owner did properly register the Product with XFX, but the secondary owner did not, the warranty is VOID for the secondary owner.

What the XFX Double Lifetime Warranty covers:

1. The XFX Double Lifetime Warranty covers only the repair of a Series 6 or Series 7 Graphics Card. XFX will repair or replace the Product to bring it to a state that is free of defects in material or workmanship (no refunds). XFX makes no other warranty, express or implied. Purchaser (owner #1 or owner #2) pays for shipping to XFX.
2. Secondary owners (owner #2) are subject to parts availability and may incur a charge for the cost of the part**. Service and repair remains free of charge.
3. Additionally, XFX reserves the right to inspect and verify the defects of the Product(s) that are returned.

XFX's liability under the Double Lifetime Warranty is limited to the repair, or, at XFX's discretion, the replacement of the portion(s) of the Product that are found to be defective in material or workmanship. The Double Lifetime Warranty does not apply to software components.

To request a Double Lifetime Warranty repair, simply request for an RMA. By shipping the Product to XFX, you assume the risk of loss in transit. Products returned to XFX become the sole property of XFX during the assessment and repair/replacement process.

XFX reserves the right to claim shipping fees as well as a service charge* from the purchaser (owner #1 or #2) for any incomplete or modified Product that is returned and that requires repair or replacement, or when the Purchaser (owner #1 or #2) is not entitled to any coverage under the XFX Double Lifetime Warranty.

Valid only to purchases made in the United States.

* Service charge is variable based upon actual material costs to repair or replace missing or modified parts to return them to original factory condition.
** Actual cost of part(s) will be determined upon receipt and inspection of the returned card.

XFX 6600GT with no problems. I put on a Zalman VF700-Cu and it OC's to 585/1.21 without much effort. I'm sure it would do more with even better cooling.

I can't belive this is the first time I'se seen this thread.

I have an XFX 6800 GT. Has always worked great. I actaually thought the stock cooling was fairly quiet, (couldn't hear it over my case/CPU fans), and worked well. Athough I didn't ever OC it.

I then had to RMA it because it burned up. Now I believe this was a MB/PSU problem that took the VC with it, but I couldn't be for sure which item actually caused the problem.

So I RMA'd the VC directly to XFX. I sent an email RMA request, and received a number back about 2 hours later. Fed Ex delievered it to them on a Monday. I emailed them on Friday afternoon to ask about the status, and within an 10 minutes, I received a UPS tracking number from XFX RMA dept. They had shipped it out on Thursday and I received it the next Tuesday. That means from the day they received it until I received it, was 8 TOTAL days. That is excellent!

Now my only coomplaint would be that they don't let you know what's going on unless you ask. But both times I emailed them I was replied to very quickly, and their turn around time was unreal.

I have now mildly OC'd it, (378/1050) and it's working great. I plan to push the OC this fall when temps go down as the room it's in runs fairly warm in the summer. All indications are that it should reach Ultra speeds, or at least very, very close.
