Worst customer service experience ever. Refused to replace a worn out fan on my 9800GT despite the lifetime warranty (and it's still within the limited warranty anyway). Spoke to an obnoxious rep who sounded like he hit the bong before he got on the phone with me - and per him, they only have 3 customer service staff for all of the western hemisphere, and they just don't give a shit either way about their customers. "due we're not like verizon - we don't do that stuff".

Just really disappointed. My last two cards were XFX cards and I bought this one because of the warranty that they are trying to weezel out of..

Over a cooling fan.

Never ever dealing with them again.
 
I've read many a newegg review and forum post regarding XFX's non-existent lifetime warranty.

Then again I've had to RMA my old EVGA 285 GTX 5 times now. They keep sending me back the same card as "repaired" even though it still does not work. I've spent almost enough in shipping fees to have bought a new card now.

Yeah, that's why I laugh when people brag about their lifetime warranty's on computer parts. It doesn't mean crap in this business.

That being said, I think that XFX and EVGA both make good products and will happily buy them when the price is right. I refuse to pay a premium for the warranty though.
 
Keep calling. Badger them until they agree to RMA your card. It might be just the fan, but if removing it voids your lifetime warranty, and its performance is no longer satisfactory, they should accept an RMA of the entire product.

A lot of tech companies do just about everything they can to refuse RMAs and often provide lackluster RMA support once accepted, but if you maintain pressure while remaining civil, they all eventually acquiesce. Sometimes it takes time, but I think of it as a game! 😀
 
yeah i had a meh experiance with XFX. Returned a OC version of a 4890 and got a non OC 4870 back. Wasnt impressed. Probably will stick to MSI or Asus going forward.
 
A lot of these companies that offer 'lifetime warranties' will not honor the RMA once the product is out of production.

They really should change their marketing tactics to say "Lifetime of the Production Run" but that would be too honest. Considering the product cycles of modern video cards, I'm surprised anyone even falls for this old shell-game anymore.
 
OP: what's wrong with the fan? Is it noisy, but still working? You could probably just grease the bearings on it.

My father got stuck with one of those noisy Nvidia 9500GS cards in an HP build; some silicone grease took care off the problem for good, when it became clear that getting a replacement fan wasn't going to happen.
 
Haha, the BBB is corrupt. XFX can just pay them to get their grade fixed.

As I said, keep trying to get them to RMA it. You can also write your state's AG complaining of warranty fraud.
 
hmmmm... I've had 2 incidents with XFX on a 4890 Crossfire setup and had no problems. First time, one card died, RMA'd and got a replacement card, refurbished but it worked. Second time, the other card's fan went bad, and they just sent me a replacement cooler that I swapped out myself.

I opened each incident on their Support site, so I've been very satisfied. I ended up sticking with them when I upgraded to dual 6870's the following year.
 
I got a voicemail from a manager saying they were sending me "a fan"...

Dunno if they mean the entire evercool VGA cooler w/ fan & heatsink, or just the fan. I tried to find the fan itself online, but it seems evercool just makes it as part of that same cooling solution that I guess several companies use on their cards.

It was grinding/scratching and screetching. I am a little worried that the G92 chip was damaged as the fan was dying. The PC shut off on me right when it gave its death rattle.

Whole thing was pretty quick. I was in "hmmm... what's that noise" mode when it happened.

PS -if its just the actual fan - have any of you ever had to take one of those evercool HSF's apart? At first, I thought it was going to be easy, but looked at it again, and I dunno if it's screwed together or somehow bonded to the copper HS. Might be a chore.

So much hand wringing for an old card. I shoulda just RMA'd it and moved on.

When they shipped me the replacement, it was the fan/cooler assembly which was relatively easy to swap out. The fan itself is mounted to the heatsink with 3-small screws.. I keep it as a souvenir on my desk at the office.
 
Supposedly new HS/F on the way. We'll see...

G92 was damn good though. Considering BF3 will probably be the app that finally kills its gaming viability, it had a really good run. Kinda sad to see mine go.

are you allowed to change your cooler on XFX cards? i want to say no because my 6850 doesn't allow it. there's a sticker on the screw.

Doesn't eVGA allow you to OC and change coolers?
