Hey everyone,

I've got a few questions regarding the HD 7750 and the 7750-900.

The minimum power specs according XFX is a 450w PS.

I know that the regular 7750 is a singleslot card powered by the PCI bus and it does not require a 6-pin connection. The 7750-900 however requires the 6-pin connection. I've read reviews on Newegg saying that the regular 7750 can be run using as little as a 250w power supply.

My question is, can you run the 7750-900 on a lower than minimum power supply? I have a 430w power supply.

Thanks!

I have a pair of 7750-900s (XFX Black Edition DD) and even overclocked to 1000Core/1250Mem, neither pulls more than 60w. (Kill-A-Watt says so, anyway.)

The auxiliary power connector and the PSU recommendations are insurance for the factory overclock, basically. A 430w PSU should be fine, provided it's a good, quality unit. And a bad quality unit would probably give you problems even if it were 1,000w.

You shouldn't have any problems. XFX has a habit of adding 6-pin power connectors when they're completely unnecessary.

Awesome thanks, I have a thermaltake 430w supply so I would think that's good quality. Would you agree?
not necessarily. you need to list the EXACT model as there was a 430 watt unit that was only rates with 18 amps on the 12v line and could not even make that when it was tested.

BAD advice. just because you did not burn up or destroy something does not make it advisable to use. and 430 watts means nothing without knowing the exact model. he has now said it is a thermaltake 430 watt psu and that could be the really crappy model with only 18 amps on the 12v.

I have a thermaltake TR2 W0070ruc 430w power supply.

Can be found at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153023

How do you think that will do? Thanks!
that power supply is not very good but at least its not the horrible model I was worried about. yours has two 12v rails with 14 amps on one and 15 amps on the other. you dont directly add those and Thermaltake did not even bother to list the combined 12v power. its probably about 23 or 24 amps total which is fine for a 7750 depending on your other specs which I dont think you ever mentioned.

OK thanks for your help. My specs right now are:

CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9400 OCed to 3.0Ghz
3 separate sata hard drives (2 western digitals and 1 Seagate)
1 ide DVD drive
No other PCI cards
The power supply listed above

Do you think I will have a problem?

the power supply has some horrible reviews but it should be okay enough to power your system with just a 7750.
