XFX 8800gt or BFG 8800gt?

Which one is faster? And better in long term? Went from a 9800 pro to this so I won't be upgrading for a while. XFX has a lifetime warranty, does BFG?

BFG does not have a lifetime warranty and will not honor the warranty if you overclock or replace the heatsink. XFX will.

XFX also has a one time transferable warranty, at least last time I checked they did. So you can buy it and then sell it to someone else and you can transfer the warranty to them, but the ability to transfer end there. It's a nice re-selling point if you are a frequent upgrader.

BFG most certainly DOES have a lifetime warranty. They can't tell if you overclocked it, and why would you replace the heatsink anyway? Whatever small gains you might get aren't worth it. I mean, it's not going to let you play Crysis on high detail just by overclocking.

Seriouisly, do some reading, they are all the exact same cards made by the same manufacturer.

I have 3 different 8800GT cards and its obvious that each company recieves them and just puts their "logo sticker" on them.

So go with the one that you feel offers the best price/warranty you are looking for.

If you are into overclocking the cards, its just a crapshoot as to which will OC better.

I've always been curious about that. Why do manufacturers even bother trying to void warranty due to overclocking? If it's sent back and tested in the manufacturer's lab with a different BIOS/driver, it's going back to stock. Not to mention you can always keep the stock heatsink and toss it back on should the card ever fail 😉

Yeah i know, if you're smart enough to overclcok or mod it, then you're definately smart enough to put things back to stock b4 sending it back. 😀

XFX, double lifetime warranty is great. Increases the resale value considerably..
Oh yeah, i didnt think of that, it seems EVGA and XFX hold their resell value better than others when trying to sell your card used on these forums. (or other hardware forums like anandtech)

So I WOULD DEFINITELY CONSIDER THAT TOO!

LOL

Just get one that is less expensive...

I paid $228 OTD for mine at BestBuy.

Also, buying at B&M gives you an opportunity to test it on your system, and return it for a full refund, or exchange.

I would prefer XFX due to the transferrable warranty, as I always sell my old stuff on ebay after I upgrade and something like that adds value to the card. However, it's not worth paying significantly more for it, as the cards themselves are basically identical. You should generally just get whatever is the cheapest.

I doubt they actually care. It would be easy for them to put in some BIOS flag or something that detects any frequency changes if they wanted to.

Unless EVGA has changed some policy recently, their warranty cannot be transferred. You have to register the card on their site within 30 days to get the lifetime warranty and that locks your address into it. There is no way to undo that either.

I've had two BFG graphics cards and an XFX.

Both BFG tech cards have had to be RMA'd (6600gt and now my 7900gt is going back 🙁 )
Had no problems with my XFX card when I had it and I OC'd quite a bit and it never flinched.
I've never OC'd my BFG cards.

I have a mix of evga and xfx cards. I recently had an xfx 6800gt that started arctifacting real bad and won't let windows load. I'll let you know how my rma experience goes once I get it sent in to them.
