XFX 8800GT 256 version at newegg

i hope you guys noticed that the $209 card is 600 core / 1400 memory

and the $229 - $10 rebate one is likely the exact same card pre tested to 650/1600 .



you will not get the same type of ram o/c in this as the 8800gt 512mb and 1400mhz rated gddr3 memory (1.4ns chips) generally tops out on overclocking at 1700 or so mhz.

For the price you got the 8800GT 512 for, you will surely regret a move like that. Especially with your 24" monitor.

Who made up this rule? Why can't I play CoD4 3 months from now? I haven't purchased it yet. There is no rule saying, "You have to play a game right now to enjoy it. You won't enjoy it if you play it next month, or two months from now. It just won't be the same." ?????

That is a simple matter of patience, and choice.

Wow...sick performance on that card. What a monster. Glad I have to wait a month or two before buying the rest of the parts for my budget build otherwise I'd already have a 3850.

hey I've seen the expreview review of the 256mb 8800gt and its performance in HL2 cod4, bioshok, UT3 and 3dmark. Does anyone know where i can see benchmarks of the card's performance in crysis?

That is a simple matter of patience, and choice.

Sure if you can hold off... I ended up playing crysis now on 1280x800 resolution @ medium settings / low settings for the second half on my 7900GS... and thats with a 8800GT on order from dell... There is no rule that says you have to hold off, but by the time you hold off to those games would be dated anyways, and newer better games would be out.

Jared, according to expreview they said they didn't do Crysis because of something with the nVidia 169.xx drivers cheating in Crysis benchmarks or something. (going by responses at the end of their review)

It's actually a bug in the driver that even if you turn on a certain feature that has to do with water it will stay off... causing higher FPS but lower visuals... the problem has already been fixed in the latest beta last I checked (although I might be wrong on this).

or you can save the cash and clock it up yourself in 5 seconds.

Is it me or did the 256MB magically disappear? I saw a 8800 gt there for only $229 and was about to pull the trigger when I realized it was a 256MB

No.... newegg has the 3850 for as low as $170. Much cheaper than the linked 256mb gt's.

Too bad Nvidia again made the mistake of not putting a dual slot cooler on the 256mb... Man, if they did, I would kick the 3870 to the curb and be all over the 256gt
