XFX 780i + E3110 OC goodness

So my 680i went poof cause I'm an idiot =\ So I ran out and picked up an XFX 780i, which btw has to be the nicest motherboard packaging I've ever seen, and I decided to plop my E3110 into it. Also got a Raptor 150gb, so I formated and reinstalled Vista 64bit updated, then threw in the rest of my 8gb of ram. Then I took a look at the voltage settings on the CPU. Stock voltage in BIOS set BY THE MOTHERBOARD running it at 3ghz was 1.1v? leh fuck? So I was like "ok..." got to 3.2 with 1.15v, then 3.6ghz with another .1 v jump. set it to 1.312v in Bios and got it to 1760fsb like it was nothing saved settings rebooted went straight into Vista like magic not a single problem. I'm going to see if I can get 1800fsb outa it and have it at 4050mhz then I'll start stressing the CPU to make sure it's stable. I'm pretty sure I can get that speed with less than 1.35v in BIOS. Wonder how far I can push it. I have a Scythe Ninja Rev B on it with a Noctua 120mm fan. Once I get back from dinner I'll reboot with driver signing off and load up core temp and see what my temps are.

Hmm Core Temp is showing funky temps... says idle is 40c so I thought that was high reboot went into bios it said 34c rebooted then Core Temp read the same as bios so I rebooted again and now it's reading more than previously. I've read before that there are problems reading temps off the E8400/E3110 which is the best to use?

Downloaded Real Temp 2.21 and it's showing 35C and 36C on the cores, seems about right I'm assuming since it's a little warm in my room atm. Going to run SuperPi and see what's up.

1800 FSB won't work and I don't want to run it above 1.4v. Orthos unstable right off the bat at 1.35v with 1760. Seems I'm getting bout .4v droop when pressuring the system. Nuclearus Multi Core ran fine as did Vista system assesment. Going to try and raise the vcore to 1.375v I think that might give me better results also going to try and raising the CPU FSB voltage and the chipset voltage up a bit should be fine once I'm done with those.

Also, forgot to mention while doing Nuclearus the highest temp I saw was 52C in Real Temp 2.21


Going to go and give 8x500 a try I might be able to pull it off. Was doing some research looks like some people have problems with 9x450, but can get away with 8x500 even with less voltage so I'm going to give it a shot.

Hmm I got it at 8x500 with 1.375v in bios, 1.352v in CPU-Z. Interesting note is that the Windows Experience Index only rates a Dual Core @ 4ghz at 5.8 they must only give 5.9 to quads. Sucks cause everything else in the system is a 5.9 rating haha =) Going to check Orthos.


Orthos Small FFTs is meh crashes after bout a minute or two, but Gromacs Core runs flawless hmmmm =| I'm going to try and play a game or two, everything has installed fine Temps are 38C idle Gromacs Core got it up to 59C. Any recommendations on what I should try next?

Ya I'm going to try thing is Gromacs Core is stable, Small FFTs not, it's stable just played Battlefield 2142 and WC3(hosting a game of Dota) and was flawless. Nuclearus ran without crashing, so did SuperPi 32m. I'm going to try slightly higher Vcore and see if it's small ffts stable if not. I'm going to try encoding a 30minute video and see if it crashes. If not then I'll leave it and just assume I hate Orthos =)

fed it quite a bit of vcore more than i was comfortable with, and it still wasn't small fft passing. But I had 4 wows open, watching a 720p video clip, played music, was compressing a large file, thinking of all sorts of stuff I could do and it wouldn't crash

How the heck did you get it to give you a 5.9? I got it to 4050mhz and it still wouldn't give me a 5.9

Edit- Also forgot to mention, this cpu HATES being overvolted to much. 3960 that gets into windows and runs superpi but can't run Nuclearus/OCCT/SuperPi will put out a faster number with the lower voltage than a higher voltage where it's mostly stable.

Another note on the higher voltage is I'm getting less stability. My cpu temps are relatively the same +1 or 2 C, but OCCT/Orthos fail sooner than with less voltage. Weirdest thing I've ever seen lol =) "put more voltage try to stablize it" just makes it worse!

Ah yeah I had to delete those because my PC time was setup and it wouldn't update the score. Also, an update on my progress. Seems I found my sweet spot 5x800 w/ 1.4375vcore (kind of high i know i know) I was able to finally get it stable because I swapped out the ram and I couldn't get it stable at 9x450 the ram was clocked 1:1, but it's not 1:1 with 5x800(wouldn't do it) but it's far more stable. I was having problems running SuperPI 1m on the first try with 9x450 even with volts thrown at it, switched to 5x800 w/ 1.4125vcore it ran superpi first try, then I tried the new x264 bench crashed. on Run 2 Pass 2, so I kept uping the vcore till I got it to pass. My load temps while running the x264 bench with my cores pinging 100% was Core1: 61C Core2:59C so I'm going to try to run Orthos later but I did a 30 minute run was good no problems. Going to run OCCT also, 2h CPU stress, then 2hr Mix.
