I just purchased a new XFX 6970 from Frys. It's actually the second card, as I returned the first thinking it must have been defective.

I previously had a 5870 and I am using the same DL DVI-D cable that displayed 2560x1600 on the 5870 mere moments before installing the 6970.

Before installing the new card I uninstalled the catalyst suite and ran driver sweeper to clean the registry.

After popping in the new card and installing fresh 11.56 drivers, using any resolution over 1280x800 will black out the 3007WFP. I made sure that I'm plugged into the top DVI port on the card as apparently the bottom is only SL.

I'm out of ideas. I'm clearly overlooking something simple. Help is greatly appreciated.

I was using the Catalyst CC.

Just got back from another trip to Frys and bought a new DVI-D Dual Link Cable....

I also picked up an Apple MiniDP to DVI Dual Link converter.

The new cable still won't work with the DL DVI slot on the 6970.

Using the converter and the old cable, everything runs fine.

I'm at a loss but I'd still like to return this $100 adapter.

I'm only have two displays and I'm not using Eyefinity.

I remember there was another guy that had had trouble using 2560x1600 with his 69xx. It worked fine for me on my 6850.

Sounds like a driver issue to me but you've been pretty careful to get rid of any lingering software from the 5870. I've found that sometimes a fresh Windows install can be a much faster solution than hours of troubleshooting but hopefully others will have a quick fix for you.

pretty sure its PEBKAC.
unless xfx has completely customized the dvi ports, the dl is the lower. The HIS site says the lower as dl, the amd reference manual pdf shows lower as dl.

This review states the top is the Dual link DVI,

This gets confusing, once the video card is installed in the computer, you can look at it as upside down ? Anyway, the connector closes to the pcb is the single link, which would be the top when installed in the computer. When sitting for a review picture its at the bottom, LOL
The AMD Radeon HD 6900 series feature five outputs, offering four display eyefinity with a maximum of two non-displayport connections (DVI/HDMI). There are two DVI ports, one dual link and one single link. The lower DVI port, closest to the PCB is the single link port that supports the use of DVI-VGA adapters, and a maximum resolution of 1920x1200 at 60Hz. The dual link DVI output supports displays up to 2560x1600 at 60Hz. A HDMI 1.4a port is also included, and the Sapphire bundle includes a HDMI 1.4 cable. Two mini DisplayPort outputs are located next to the HDMI output, supporting the 1.2 specification. The configuration provides Eyefinity support for up to 4 displays, at 1920x1200 resolution each, using any two digital outputs plus the two display port outputs. Eyefinity 6 is supported with the use of DisplayPort 1.2 displays that are daisy-chain capable, or multi-stream hubs. Unfortunately, neither are available for purchase yet.
