Hi Guys,

I'm running out of ideas.. I'm getting really low FPS in games but speed are good if I enable only 1 card.

I tested both card 1 by 1 for about 10 days each to make sure everything was fine.

3D Marks 11 Score with default settings:
P 7431 (Crossfire)
P 4618 (1 card)

Everything seem fine in 3dmarks.. lower then I expected but at least i know the crossfire work.

I tried latest Ati drivers 11.1 (with 11.1a hotfix & profile 10.12cap2 )
I tried earlier version 10.11 with hotfix & old profile ..
Crossfire is enabled in CCC.
Update my BIOS to the latest version.

Tried 3 different bridge for the crossfire.

I cleaned the drivers, reinstalled, tried a new Windows 7 install on a different HD & on a VHD.

Same results.

Crossfire All resolution at 1920x1080:

Dirt 2 - 60 fps average in the benchmark everything maxed
Mafia2 - 63 fps average in the benchmark everything maxed NO physx
Bad Company2 - 77~ fps everything maxed
COD Black Ops - 75~ fps everything maxed

1 card at 1920x1080:

Dirt 2 - 66~ fps average in the benchmark everything maxed out
Mafia 2 - 56 fps in the benchmark everything maxed NO physx
Bad Company2 - 65~ fps everything maxed
Cod Black Ops - 75~ fps everything maxed

My Spec:
MSI P55-GD55 (16x,4x bus lanes)
XFX 6950 2gb x2
i7 860 Intel
Antec Truepower 750W
G.Skill F3-12800 9-9-9-24 2x2gb
2x WD 500gig Black Raid 0

Everything Stock no O/C.

Something seem wrong.. but i have no idea what it is.. Unless it's the 4x lane on the second pci express screwing me up.. i don't have anymore ideas.

Please help.

thanks

Ben

Is Catalyst AI on advanced?

PCI-E x4 shouldnt make crossfire slower than a single card.

I am surprised you get Bad Company2 - 80~100 fps everything maxed

I am getting 120-200 with xfire 6950's with the shader unlock...so I am surprised you're getting as good as you are stock.

Are you unlocked at all? are you SURE you have crossfire enabled?

I have a test for you: Use a single card and keep it in the x4 slot. Then run some benchmarks. Keep everything else the same in your system.

Have you made sure the x4 slot is at x4 and not x1? Check the BIOS. If you have an expansion card in the other PCI-E slots it will slow down the x4 to x1.

Yes i'm sure it's running at 4x GPU-Z & Hardware info in CCC show it at 4x.

I don't have any pci\pci-e cards in the other slots.

I don't think i can test at 4x on the second PCI-E. There both 16x unless you set 2 cards.. then second one end up at 4x. Don't even know if this is gonna post on the second PCI-E. ;P

Even thought past few years things got "better" I still would never opt for multi GPU solution.

meh

Download MSI Afterburner 2.10 Beta 7 and watch the gpu usage as you run the games benchmarks. You should be able to tell pretty quick if the 2nd gpu is being fully utilized.

Yah both are being used. One at 99% the other at 50% peeking to 70%.

Just ran a Dirt 2 bench .. 64fps with crossfire .. hell yah ;P

Overclock you cpu and disable v sync in games.

edit: If you think it might be the pci-e x4 slot , try turning down the settings to high and don't use AA or AF. If you scaling gets better, the 4x slot is holding you back.

Since CF seems to be scaling well in benchmarks, this looks like a software setting issue to me. Just going by the Dirt 2 numbers, they ought to be a lot higher.

I'd check your Catalyst settings with a fine-toothed comb; v-sync and MSAA are likely candidates. (Heck, just go through each and every section and click Default settings...you can put it back later.) Then go through your games one by one if the fps doesn't improve and look for game-specific settings.

Hmmm my Crossfire set up works great. Are both cards set to the same settings core/memory in 2d and 3d? You have to select each one separately... I also have aa and aas set to application preference, super-sampling, disable catalyst ai etc. I can't remember all my settings as I'm at work, I'm going off of memory... Also your cpu might be the bottleneck now, if you can overclock it and see if that helps, and it does look like maybe vsync is enabled as others have mentioned?

Well just tried with a Asus P7P55-E Pro.
No improvement.

Except 3dmarks11 show P 7979.
Probably due to the 8x/8x lanes.

Dirt 2: 51.6 fps & 110 fps no msaa
Mafia 2: 78.5 fps

V-Sync is OFF in CCC & games. I used default in CCC for everything.

I did all the test on a brand new Win7 64bits installation.
I'll try with a new PSU tomorrow. 850 or 1000 watts..

Hmm ok .. i noticed while wasting time testing that my PSU power cable had 18 AWG .. i decided to look in my PSU original box and there was the original cable at 15 AWG.. i tried it out for the hell of it and guess what..

Now Dirt 2 1920x1080 Everything maxed is 103 FPS.

Mafia 2 still at 79fps.

So basically switching cable for my PSU gave me extra fps in dirt 2.. but not with mafia 2 ..

I'll try a 850,1000 watts psu tomorrow.

The gauge of the power cable should not be an issue. That in itself wouldn't give you extra fps. Have you tried OCing the CPU? Have you checked the CPU temperatures (if the CPU is running too hot it may underclock itself)?

Installed a Antec 1000 Quadro.

Result:

Same as before.

Dirt2: 1920x1080 Ultra MSAA 8x - 103 fps (GPU usage at 99% both cards)

Mafia 2: 1920x1080 Everything maxed PHYSX OFF - 77.7 fps (GPU usage equal on both cards)

Crysis Warhead Cargo bench: 1920x1080 Gamer settings 2MSAA - 50 fps (GPU usage at 50% each)

1 card in Crysis does 49 fps ....

So it ain't the power supply ...

Well im out of ideas.. Sugestion ?!
