XFX 6800GS AGP 8X

I just recieved my XFX 6800GS from newegg and would like to unlock it with RivaTuner. Does anyone have a step by step guide to unlocking it with 16 pipes? I'd rather not fry/damage my card if the 4 extra pipes are damage / not working properly!

Sorry to sound like a complete idiot, but I've never unlocked any pipes before (I had a 9800pro before this). Better to ask first and not pay for it later!

Also should I use the beta drivers from nvidia? I'd rather check first, thx.

beta drivers are fine. Honestly, there are so many of them, it might take you a while to find one that gives you the best performance/stability.

Unlock your 6800GS

You cant really fry your card by unlocking it. If you have bad pipes or vertex shaders, just disable them again.

Unlock, then OC, enjoy!

Is there any way to "immediatly tell" if the shaders and pipes are bad? Any 3d app to run? (I usually play BF2). As of right now the card (stock) can run BF2 at 1240 and 4AA with all on high flawlessly! My 9800pro couldn't do that if I even tried!

Sorry for the noobish sounding questions.... I'm not a noob when it comes to pc's, I've just never done this before

My NV5silencer comes tommorw so I'll be able to install that as well and get a bit more out of my card. Has anyone else had a problem with the ram spreaders/heatsinks falling off or not making full contact or cooling properly?

On stock my GPU runs at 50c and I was able to get my card up to 1120mhz memory and 420mhz core before I started to get worried about temps.

f it's really bad, you'll see artifacts at bootup. Otherwise, just game with it and see it it works.

yeah, you'll know if you have bad pipes, you will artifact like crazy.

Well this sucker unlocked to 16 pipes flawlessly but the shader didn't seem to agree with me . I ended up relocking it and rebenchmarking etc.

The system runs BF2 flawlessly at 1280 X 1024 with 4AA and max settings! My 19' lcd can't take any higher rez, otherwise I'd try it!

newegg is advertising that card with 1100mhz memory??? its not.

Nope! Out of the box it was 1000mhz not 1100! hense why I was a bit peeved but oh well. It's up to what it should be.
