I just installed an XFX 5870 that I bought used. When I went to screensaver, the screensaver doesn't appear. The words 'Screensaver requires D3D' or something to that effect appears. The font is yellow on a black background. When I move the mouse the desktop is tinted yellow. What's going on here? I had trouble seating the card but thought I got it figured out. Help is appreciated.

It turned out to be the Catalyst 10.3 drivers, who would have known it would cause this when 10.2 work fine.

Really? No they couldn't have. It wasn't a documented issue. I really just changed back to 10.2 and it worked fine, google search didn't turn up any other instances of the problem. I've never had a beta of any program cause me a problem, guess I've been lucky. In any case, I'm going to wait for the certified drivers now that the problem is gone.

Maybe they did not install correctly for some reason?

Maybe so. I'd think it would be a pretty big problem if people started saying "Hey, these drivers don't support D3D." I thought I removed the previous install correctly beforehand, but who knows. I'm probably going to wait for the real release though.

Sounds reasonable. The WHQL release will not have some features the 10.3a will have though. Something to consider if you want a small increase in FPS or better eyefinity support.
