Well on BF2 anyway. Ok first off Vysnc does not work in windows 7 and BF2 and the Ati 5870. And yes it was forced threw the CCC. And second my FPS were horrible. Using fraps I was getting about 40 fps most of the time. With my old 8800GT I could get a consistant 60 with vysnc on. But with the lastest 9.10 RC 7 drivers from Ati I get anyway from the 30-50 which is really really bad. I'm not sure what the problem is, could it be windows 7 the drivers etc. So far pretty unimpressed. And yes I know its one game, yet its an old game and the 5870 should plow right threw this game...

My FPS still tank with or without forcing Vysnc. It pretty much runs this game like a slide show. I'm going to try different drivers..

Disappointing news. Though BF2 isn't my type of game but I'm keeping an eye on user reports of HD 5870. Keep them coming, guys. Much appreciated.

Did a complete format. And it still did it. But I think I figured it out. I choose Use application settings in the CCC for AA, then for AA mode on the bottom of CCC I set it to Quailty which was supersampling. With that set my FPS tanks. When I set it to the middle one or low then I get a constant 60 or 100 depending on weather Vysnc is on or off. I wonder why it tanks when I set it to quality supersampling. With my GTX285 I could have quality and supersampling and it was fine.

What happens when you have to run to be the first to buy new product/technology unfortunately =( (NOTE TO SELF)

Glad I don't play BF2 then lol. My XFX 5870 screams in the games I play, but I mostly tried it with benchmark games that are well optimzed. Tested fc2 warhead and fallout 3, and I just preordered MW2 and assassins creed 2. Hawx is on mail order with my second 5870 lol

Super sampling is much more demanding. Read AT's review of the 5870 and they'll talk about supersampling. http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3643&p=14

Although strange since I'd figure the 5870 would be enough to handle BF2 with SS-AA.

That's typical of new card releases. Any card I've ever bought on release has had idiosyncratic bugs that usually get fixed in the next 2-3 driver releases.

the gtx285 doesn't actually do supersampling, if that setting is there, then it's using an alternate method. maybe bfg10k knows about it, he is the AA guru.

bf2 is a no go on my win7beta64 machine. chalk it up to quality EA programming.

i highly doubt that the card is at fault.

It really depends, if you're using 4xmsaa and enable supersampling, you're videocard is rendering four times the amount of pixels. If you do 8xmsaa and enable supersampling, you're rendering 8 times the amount of pixels. If you also happened to enable edge detect, narrow or wide tent filters, you're rendering even more pixels.

I'm using application controlled AA then I set the method to SSAA. Just like I did with my nvidia hardware pretty much. Yet my FPS tanks when I set it to SSAA. And I'm using BOX. If I set it to MSAA then its fine. I've tried 2 sets of drivers the RC6 9.10 and the RC 7 ones...
