Hi there

Will the XFX 5850 Black Edition (specs below) be powerful enough to play the latest racing games (Grid, Dirt2, NFS Shift...) at full res. on a 27" monitor (2048 X 1152). What kind of performance (fps) should I expect?

*Black Edition has core clock of 765 MHz vs. the normal 725 MHz.
*Black Edition has memory clock of 1125Mhz(4.5Gbps) vs. the normal 1000Mhz(4.0Gbps)

Thanks all!

If you use DX9 in DiRT2, you should be fine with minima easily above 30fps. And trust me when I say DX11 isn't worth the performance hit in DiRT 2 compared to DX9.

aren't those speeds what you can already overclock the card to using ati overdrive?
why buy a black edition

That resolution is just a very little bit higher overall than 1920x1200, so you can pretty well judge by any benches that use 1920x1200. I plan on getting a 5850 for my 1920x1200 res monitor, based on the reviews I've seen it should be a plenty capable card for that resolution (and your resolution). Also, the 5850's tend to overclock pretty well from what I've read.

I have a Samsung 2343BW, same resolution as you and I sue a Powercolor HD5850 and I can play every game at max, realy max as in 8 times AA and all.

Lowest fps is probably crysis so far at 27 fps at max resolution and 8xAA entheusiast settings. Still it's playable.

In DirT 2 I get about 60-70 fps but that was using DX10, I had problems installing DX11 and I think this puts me down to about 60fps based on some other HD5850 reviews out there.

30fps? ofcourse not...

oh hell if works paying for it, why not a 5870? or dual hah =)

i run everything @ 1920x1200 with my xfx 5850, no slowdowns that i've noticed
except in bc2, which no matter what res i set it at, it runs that slow, so i don't think
its the card
