Well today i noticed my old docuprin xj8c was running out of ink. The color cartridge's print head is broken and the black is almost gone. I find that a color cartridge costs $48 and a black is $42. So i look at buy.com's clearance section and see they have P8s for $50. Free shipping in the clearance part. So i used a 10 off 30 coupon and i have a new printer, with a new black and color ink cartridge. Definitley cheaper than buying cartridges, though kinda environmentally unfriendly since i'll have to throw out the old printer. This printer is 5 ppm black 3 ppm color i think, not bad, 1200x600 and if its as good as the old xj8c then that pretty good print quality. They have the 9ppm black, 5ppm colo p11 for $80 - $10 coupon also

Hahaha, I learned that lesson too. Got my printer for 50 bucks, when I ran out of ink, the new cartridges costed like 80 bucks! What the heck? Maybe I'll have to get one in case I run out of ink...=)

I did the same thing when I ran out of ink. I got a Xerox C20 for $80 with free shipping from buy.com when it was the deal of the day. Workstation printer for less than the cost of buying two new ink cartridges.

Something you might consider, MOST of the printer manufacturers seem to have caught on to things like this and ship with "demo" quantites of ink or "trial" quantities of ink, etc. If you ring the sales number they will usually admit this up front. For some mfgrs this is only enough ink for a handful of pages. But you can go to places like e bay and find what look like reputable folks selling ink refills for a fraction of what the new price is. I did this with my C6 and was happy with the result.

wierd, when i got the xj8c a year ago it came with the full cartridges, i just went to office depot and sent in the mail in rebate, its was like $70, which was still less than the two cartridges were worth
