hehe yeah I'm not meaning to come off as selective about the source of the info...some info is better than no info. I just tire of the games sometimes, the manipulation just seems needless. But it comes with the territory, so...

Hi All, sorry for the belated post, long-time reader, 1st time forum user!
Does anyone know if it's possible to use a W35x + ECC RAM in "Desktop" X58 mobos?

Someone at Ars mentioned that W35x's can be used in such motherboards but...
He wasn't sure if EEC RAM can be used or whether uber-specialised (read: expensive) workstation mobo's are needed.

Cheers

Actually in reading some of the earlier posts...

I'm getting the sense that along with CPU support ECC support depends on whether it's catered for in the BIOS.

So one doesn't have to get a Tyan mobo etc, the BIOS just needs to be set-up right...
Would this assertion be correct?

Cheers

Hmm looking at ARK there's not a single difference between 920 & W3520 aside from ECC.

I thought the TDP was better in the W3520, if that's all I'm paying the premium for then no thanks.

E5520 looks pretty darn sweet considering the price though!

Clock-speed is little on the low side, I wonder if anyone's had much success OC'ing it?
I guess it's benefited from the new stepping just as the 920 reportedly has...

Whatya reckon?
