Yeah but one thing I am noticing right off the bat is, on the server side of things everything is is double or triple the cost of what standard desktop prices are.
Pretty neat though to see all these advances Intel and AMD are doing now that both parties are being competitive once again.
Took long enough for this to happen.
I am very excited to see where all this advancement leads to in the next coming months and years.
Wonder if we will be seeing something like a 4 core part with 16 threads since AMD's new plan is to increase thread count on the server side, which usually trickles on over to desktop parts..

They are about even if you compare the price per core on 3900X(12C/24T) and Epyc 7702P(64C/128T), it's Intel that Quadruple Xeon Prices compared to the already expensive desktop part

Not really.. the 7702p is 5.333 times the amount of cores of the 3900x at $500 so 5.333 x $500 = $2666.5.
So the 7702p should be around $2666 not $5500!!
Also Intel has always price gouged consumers even from the beginning of there existence.
The only good thing I like about Intel is you can get super duper cheapo high core count Xeons off ebay for pennies on the dollar...
Cant deny I loved me some e5-2670's and 80's not all that long ago!!

Except my 14 core Xeons will not sell, even at $200 each ! Its been months, and I get offers for $100 for them, other than that, no action. And the price above is twice for EPYC, but the point is that Xeons are 4 times the price.

I would have been interested in them a couple months back but I dont own any Intel motherboards.
Well that and I am still trying to piece together my Epyc 7302p rig and still get a 3950x next month in Nov some time..
What Xeons are they and for what socket?
Have you tried Ebay lately?

There is a much more support infrastructure that goes into the pricing on server side. Honestly being only 100% more expensive per core as a sell and forget it desktop chip is like a steal for the server side. I get people not wanting to pay more then they have to for things. But its silly to say well Company A was able to sell X for Y so Z should be some factor of Y. I am not for price gauging even in a corporate setting where everyone is playing with someone else's money so they treat it as though its monopoly money. But what AMD is doing is like the farthest from Price gauging.

Just look at the review above. The 8280 is nearly 4x times the price per core even though it has less then half the cores, is slower and uses pretty much the same power. That makes it 8x more expensive per core then the 3800x/3900x. Versus just the 2x the cost for the absolute fastest general market CPU (not counting special designs like the 7h20). One company is price gauging and the other is selling their product at a reasonable cost considering market, development, and support. I'll let you decide which one.
