I just scored a pair of these for $100 (GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD7).

Pretty sure I can sell 1 for that.. USB 3.0, Sata3 and Legacy support :)

Will need X5675 soon.. Now to find some ram :)

@Burpo : Nice deal two boards for 100$ :)

I have benched and tried a lot today. Reached 20x200 for 4ghz and ram 1600mhz. I know that you have say to me to leave Uclck and qpi link on auto but it's too slow. I have put a ratio qpi link/uclck 9:8 and uclck= 2xram frequency.
I have to put 1.35v Vcore and 1.35v qpi/vtt. It's a lot of voltage no ? I think the cpu is dying before i use it :D
I know you're not medium but with this voltage and my temps (19 degree ambiant the core goes up to 85 degree max) can my computer run 3 years with big use ?
I'm worried about his lifespan :'(

As long as it's not throttling, I see no reason why it won't last at least 3 yrs.

It would be more impressive if that was 24/7.

suicide benchmarks runs are meh.

Even still....it's impressive, if an old beat up server chip wants to go out in a dazzling flash of 5Ghz benchmarks, why not let the old geezer have one last kick at the clock? :D

Thank you for the fast reply. No it isn't thottling. I reach 85 degree with prime95 and have meant that it will go higher with Intel Burn Test but it doesn't. The max core temp is 78 in maximum mode. Strange.
Have tried another orientation of the cpu fan but it was a bad idea so i have reinstalled all. Maybe with the time the arctic silver 5 i use will better conduct the heat. I have heard it's a little better after some time of use. The Gelid GC extreme thermal past seem to be the best but i don't know if i'll buy it.
I stop benching now and enjoy this horsepower :D

Freakin' gorgeous!! If you want to sell one to ME, I'd probably take one of those! ;)

You got a sweet deal... I'm so jealous. The heatsinks are massive!!

I'd put my x5650 into this one, give my kid the 920 in my current not-so-great overclocking board.

After doing a bit of reading, these boards are feature rich, but to get them to overclock worth a tinkers damn, I may have to use the UD5 version flash. Looks like I'm gonna get educated on the Gigabyte X58A.. Asus makes everything so easy, but this should be fun & more challenging. :)
BTW, that's a Hybrid water cooler for the VRM.. Don't know if i like all the room it takes up. May have to put some heat sinks on instead..

You mean that thick chrome fin sticking out of the board? Needs more chrome. ;-)

For a $50 board, a little learning curve will be worth it....happy to hear that your 5675 5G dream will be coming to a BD render soon.

My must-buy 5675 trigger is $125(ish)....getting closer...

I guess if that's your thing :p

Burnt silicon and a possibly damaged board is something I try to avoid even if i'm just having fun.

I tried moving from xeon from 4ghz up to 4.4 then 4.5 with much success but i had to use 1.5v on the core for the 4.4 and even higher for the 4.5 towards the 1.6v region. also 2 of the cores on my processor run way hotter than the rest so they were hitting 95c when i tried to do it :(

maybe i should finally invest in some water cooling, does anything know of a good kit to start with?

Or just be happy with 4.2Ghz of hexcore goodness.. :)

yeah i tried settling on 4.2ghz but even that puts me into the 90c mark on prime 95, 4ghz puts me slightly below that point, or should i just not care about the prime 95 temps

all i have is an coolermaster 212 evo cooler

What's your current air cooler? My 5660 only hits 75c on the hottest core at 4.5 under IBT using a Mugen 4 with Noctua F12s.

Also that seems like a lot of extra voltage. My 5660 will hit 4.6 with 1.52. Maybe you didn't win the silicon lottery. But, seems on most 56xx, going past 4.3 the voltage increase curve ramps up way faster than the frequency.

For 24/7 use tho, it runs at 4255 with a .19 offset and never passes 60c under full load. That's the sweet spot for my chip.

If you want to get spendy, the Kraken X61 is probably the best AIO.

But, maybe you want to go to a full custom water loop, that's out of my depth. Ping aigomorla when you're sure you want to spend hundreds on stuff that leaks and burbles. ;-)

http://media.bestofmicro.com/Z/V/325291/original/cooler-master_hyper-212-evo_install-2.jpg is my current air cooler so its only a 20 dollar budget one from cooler master

i basically copied that video for my bio's settings since im using an asus p6t se but had to raise the vcore to make it work for me especially when pushing towards 4.4-4.5

That cooler is not meant for OC Xeons. Yikes!

Pony up another $10-20 for the Scythe Kotetsu or Mugen 4 and you will see an almost 20c drop in temps. $33 and change at: http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=99181&vpn=SCKTT-1000&manufacture=Scythe
The stock fan is great, but you can add a 2nd fan to pull as well as push and drop another couple degrees.

Prefer Burpo's method, using offset rather than the fixed voltage. 1.38V for 4.2 is not that great, imo. Using offset should hit 1.32 max and under 1.12 at idle.

Someone call Burpo, if they can drag him away from his new chrome finned toys.

In the meantime search this thread for settings. There's a bunch of options.

So you'd say that water cooling isnt worth it? is there other companies that make comparable cpu coolers to scythe?

also i dont know how to use offsets on my board i have a p6t se

Unfortunately the P6T doesn't have offset voltage settings. Either you type in what you want or set it on automatic..
I'm using CoolLink Corator, but moved the stock fan to the front as pusher & used a better 78 cfm fan in the middle..

but is what he said about me getting 20c less with a new cooler true from a 212?

Doubt you'll get 20c better but 8-10c possibly?

I got a X5550 (basically 95 watt i7-920) off ebay for $12 delivered :) Easier than tearing my rig down just to test boards.
Will let you know..

Last night in my thermal outrage didn't notice that it was a 212 - mistook it for a their hyper 4 push pin thingie. Sorry.

Compared to my numbers and jforce321's - there was almost a 20c difference. His hottest core was 95c and the last run I made at 4.5 it was 76c. (Of course it was a winter run with ambient temp in the low teens C :hmm:)

From my experience the 212 is great for the price. To a point. It doesn't cope well with extreme overclocks, however. The stock fan is ok, but putting two better fans (like the cheap Cougar PWMs) will help a lot.

Biggest trouble I had with the 212 was getting a great mount for hexcores. Took about 5 attempts. Whereas the Mugen 4/Kotetsu bases are slightly convex and with good TIM application, they work great the first time.

jforce321, consider remounting and experimenting with the various TIM applications methods for direct touch heat pipes. Is your 212 the EVO or previous version? What are the temps at 4.2-4.3?

well apparentelly i was using some of the shittiest most generic thermal paste in the world, so i went out and bought some some ic diamond which lowered my temperatures to 75c max during prime 95 4ghz 1.35vcore from 85-90c, so that was a great help still idling around 35-40c tho, but im using the evo version.

edit: hovering right at 90c at 4.2 and 4.4ghz on prime 95, so i think its an issue with pushing past 1.35v on my processor as i have 4 cores that run hot while the other 2 run 10-15c less
