how about just running the stock cooler? if not this would be the next worst thing

not a bad looking cooler, im not so picky about appearance but I absolutely HATE how so many coolers stick 3 miles off the mobo, such a pain in the a$$ if need to get hands into case to do anything

I made the mistake of not looking at clearances around the cpu socket before buying, so when I get the chance im going to replace that P.O.S. and the cooler on the x2 3800. will likely get an h80 for this system and put the h70 back on the 920

I am sorry to report that Bloodrage doesn't have good support for this CPU. I have the latest P11 BIOS and there is no problem booting into Windows. However any FBS over 150Mhz will cause black screen and the machine will not post. I had to pull the battery out and reset BIOS every time that happens. And I got a bluescreen last night when the processor was not OCed. Guess I will have to return it.

Bad news, I have a Flamingblade GTI ... I guess it will have the same issues

Currently I have no problems with 201 Mhz though. But I guess the Gulftown is another level ...

MSI X58A-GD45
24GB 1600 RAM (6x4GB sticks)
2 2GB Radeon 6950s in Crossfire running 13.8 beta
ASUS Essence STX
1.5tb 7200rpm HD
Blu-Ray drive
Corsair H60
All in a Fractal Design Define XL R2

Just ran 3dmark: 5994 in Fire Strike. Has these same components in an AMD FX-8150 rig. Thought you all would be interested in the physics score: 12,525 vs 6,940. For the slight +400 in overall score, watching the actual animation was much smoother now.

Nice oc and benches. Im curious what kinda score would get with a 670
I would suggest pulling 3 sticks out and running 12g instead of the mixed memory, might get a better score

Currently I have no problems with 201 Mhz though. But I guess the Gulftown is another level ...

I think he fixed the issue by manually setting memory timings.

Not sure why scores would go up, all three channels are running same speed and timing and triple channel is enabled.

Remember, 3dmark reports SPD data, not actual.

Don't have any nVidia cards to try, so I won't be able to try out the other side unless someone wants to send me one.

I do have a 6950 coming with two crossfire connectors so I can try trifire.

So far even though the BIOS says 3.6Ghz at post, when I'm in windows and I put load on all cores, cpu-z says I'm running at 3.2Ghz. Notably if I load just one core, it does run at 3.6Ghz. So it's behaving like turbo.

Any thoughts?

On my board I could only force to 17x, but if you let EIST and turbo do their thing, it will run 18x on all cores or 20x on 1-2 cores.

Get Intel burn test if you want to check stability. Make sure you run all cores and 2 cores. Mine was stable on all cores at 213, but 2 cores would not work right. Even an offset of +0.3v seems to not be enough. Haven't decided if I want to go higher or not, leaning towards not.

Nevertheless, that might be the better option than forcing the 17x all-core turbo.

No, you seem to be right, I now checked the t frequencies at cpuworld:

Turbo frequency
2667 MHz (1 or 2 cores) -> MP: 20
2533 MHz (3 or 4 cores) -> MP: 19
2400 MHz (5 or 6 cores) -> MP: 18

With these settings the CPU looks nice ... if you can hit 210 QPI clock, then it would mean 4.2 GHz max turbo for 2 threads ... I guess that would be enough for most games. 4.0 for 4 threads is also not too bad, my current W3520 is not much faster.

As soon as I go to 205 blck I get stability issues in the H264 benchmark and others.

Check your temps and make sure any Overlimit Protection settings are off.

It will only run 18x while under a certain thermal Window.

BIOS multiplier is always the default multiplier. My bios clocj is 3.8 GHz, but because I have the turbo always on feature, I have then later 4.0 in Windows.

So the question is why u only have 3.2 I second Terry's idea there, check thermal or current protection settings.

I ended up getting one as a spare cuz i ran out of x58 boards, cuz its one hell of a deal at 100 dollars.

if u need a new board i highly recommend that MSI over any ASUS except the rampage series.

u need to up the voltage on VTT for higher FSB.
Typically if i recall you had to have at least 1.375-1.4VTT... problem with vtt that high is you eat the life away at a gulftown very quickly...
I dont expect the gulftown to survive longer then 1-2yrs with VTT over 1.4... wont last 6 months if u FOLD on it.

So the question is why u only have 3.2 I second Terry's idea there, check thermal or current protection settings.

windows 7 can not report values higher then stock.. (when u play with multi.. turbo on is a +1 multi.. so ur higher then stock.)
so it will go by default clock (9x) when your clock is actually higher (10x turbo).
It only looks at bclk and multi's LOWER then stock.
You follow whats in bios and cpu-z more then via windows.
Its exactly like my gulftown reporting 3.4ghz when the real clock is 4.4 due to pure multiplier tweaks.
(AKA... the lazy man's overclock.. on a XE or K type chip)

I just want to say, not to brag, but that board is a steal. It probably comes with literally $25 worth of accessories. When I sold my 8150 combo, I bought another one of these kits to upgrade my wife's computer.
