I can't imagine the CPU would have anything to do with it. People hear "Xeon" and automatically assume that is the problem. Are you attempting to stream with wifi? Did this build involve a fresh OS install?

it is a fresh os install and it's over wifi

So it's probably just some dumb Windows Firewall setting that you had right before, and now it's wrong because of the new install. I'd try turning off the firewall for a bit and see if it helps.

I bet it's not the CPU. Try harassing support again but this time don't mention the word "Xeon." :p

In case anyone was wondering, my "new" 6950 came today. I got frustrated with an unrelated issue and didn't run Trifire, but I do have an interesting result for some:

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/789613

Exactly same setup, with two 6950s unlocked to 6970 shaders. Almost 200 points difference. Same clocks.

I've got a SR-2 coming that I'm going to try and repair. If I can get it working, I'll Trifire on that.

I tried these settings and got the same results and no core is reaching 50C with my thermaltake 2.0 pro, I might try pushing it further later.

Sounds promising ! Mine is definitely tacked out right there due to cooling..

Can you let me know if your Sabertooth has TDP override settings in the Intel PPM menu ?

how do I get to the ppm menu?

Advanced Tab > CPU config > Intel PPM near the bottom.. Turbo has to be enabled to see them, but according to the manual there should be a TDP override option (Post#207 for a ss of the manual)

I can't find a tdp override option... also, it seems my board doesn't like anything past bclk 220 and vcore 1.31, but that puts me at a comfortable 3956.67 mhz and I'm still under 50C

I just figured out that PCSX2 is running substantially better that it used to on my 3570k (at 4.6 ghz), I'm able to run budokai tenkaichi 3 at 6x native res with antialiasing at over 100 fps now. could that be due to the cpu change or the gpu change (hd 7870 to gtx 660ti)

7870 to a 660ti isn't THAT big a deal, is it? They are both what I would call lower high-end, with same year of release.

7800 gen series.. card 70... top dog.

although it had problems... its still a series 70 card which AMD gives as their flagship, outside dual gpu.

I own a 7970, which well exceeds the 660ti, but the 7870 and 660ti trade blows. I honestly don't understand what you are saying.

Ok I got everything but the memory in and installed. I don't know if my BIOS is limiting the multiplier, but the highest multi I get is 16x. Any ideas?

Oh, damn you aigo. If it weren't for your post in that guy's General Hardware thread, I would simply ignored the L5639 like I had when I first came across this thread. Now my builder's itch has become unbearable.

Anyway. Is a Foxconn Renaissance II board any good for pairing up with the L5639?

Is this Xeon a dual QPI Xeon? I am trying to find out if it will work with my 1.0 Revision 760 A1 EVGA board, and so far it seems I can't IF it's a dual QPI Xeon. I've googled and haven't found anything about the Xeon L5639

No, I was looking at this board as well, go with msi, asus, or gigabyte, because there were actual reports of fires with the renaissance II, not to mention low quality components

who told you this?

yes these cpu's are dual qpi, however the lga1366 will accept both.

Your overclocking maybe slightly affected.... in terms of mostly the MT/s speed being locked at 4.8 and not 6.4.

only in gaming...

The 7870 has more shaders... typically has more ram... is a better card then a 660 GTX at higher resolution

oh wait.. did the OP have a Ti or a normal GTX?
i missed the Ti....

However the 7870 usually comes with more shadders and ram out of the box.

Also not to drag this into the green and red camp.... i own nvidia cards.. and game with the tops dogs because games are more typically optimized for nvidia.... until ps4 comes out.
