<< blue tint to your headlights >>

are we talkign the same thing?

cuz there are the plastics that are baby blue tint, and the actualy bulb that emits a baby blue light...

thank god. i hate those lights, they are brighter than two suns in a solar flare. I also noticed they were a bit blueish sometimes purplish. I mainly see them in SUVs, which gives me another reason to hate those retard gas eating vehicles

danny~!

<<cuz there are the plastics that are baby blue tint, and the actualy bulb that emits a baby blue light...>>

Any blue light emmitted from you cars equipment will be considered illegal. It is a matter of time before those stock blue headlights get busted. Blue is a color reserved for law enforcement only.

Ever heard of the blue light rapist?

Those things are definately too bright in your rear view at night.

Plus, I don't know if stock light come like this, but some of them are really blue. I mean to the point that I think a cop is behind me at times. Aren't their laws about the color of lights on cars? I mean, I can't go and put red lights on the front of my car. Or are these "not blue enough" to break these laws?

hmm.. they better not.. I just spend $30 on Xenon Headlight and Fog light for my Jetta, and I love them everybit since I installed them.. they're not exactly very bright, and I can't really tell the blue tint anyway.. it only makes the light looks whiter (Blue+somewhat yellot = White???)

As for brightness.. yes HIDs are bright, but they shouldn't be illegal.. the US gov is jsut being anal on issues around these.

They won't be banned. The automakers love them, because of the profit margin, and will lobby like crazy. I don't know of anyone who owns them who hates them. I don't think I'll ever get another car or truck that doen't have them.

Yeah they don't bother you if you're emitting the blinding death rays! Not to mention that SUV owners probably don't notice as much, higher and all.

The drivers who have them still have to pass other cars with them. I'm betting that it's not the cars that come stock with true hid systems that blind people. The aftermarket knockoffs are another matter. Most of those that I've seen here in NJ are just blue tinted halogen bulbs. I was at a local car audio store and he gets between $1500 - $2000 to install a hid light system. I've seen the bulbs for $30. I've only seen one suv with hid lights. I've seen many with the blue blubs.

I believe that's a major part of the problem too...HID lights have to be PRECISELY aimed so as not to blind oncoming drivers. I have stock Xenons in my car and I have never been "flashed" by another driver thinking I have my brights on.

OOOHHH, so that's what they are...

recently in Toronto... I've been witnessing a lot of high-beaming at night. I guess they're not high beams 🙂

but it's freakin wierd (and annoying) to see a bunch of cars stopped at the traffic light on top of the hill and you're coming in from the opposite direction only seeing one car with high beems on and the rest of the cars with normal lights on.

and I thought it was all those chinese drivers who keep forgetting to turn off their high-beams... (UGH)

btw, I'm chinese, so it's not exactly racist to make fun of myself 😛

I'll edit upon request 🙂 [sorry, I Like making fun of my own kind... everyone gets a good laugh] 😀

The stock HID systems do not blind peolpe. It is the aftermarket ones that are improperly aimed that do that. Also the true HID systems are not blue at all. They are white. Once again it is the aftermarket lights that are the offending party. The real HID systems properly installed and aimed are a far superior lighting system. I wish I had them in my car for when I drive acroos Alligator Alley at night when visiting my sister.

I use the PIAA bright white beams myself. These don't have the blueness that all those other aftermarket ones have. Although they do sell ones that are bluer. I don't think driving with those lights is wrong but they shoud dredesign the optics in the headlamps for HIDs. If you take a look at different HID installed vehicles, the american cars tend to have the least amount of glare at a distance. Like the Lincolns.

Also I think one of the problems is that they are aligned WAY too high. But in any event, I doubt they could ban these because it is either at such a loss to the ones that own them (typically $2000 more for the vehicle) or it would be a huge loss the the vehicle manufacturers. Would the NHSTA really refuse vehicles with HIDs from selling in the US? Don't more people buy these high end imports than high end domestics?

People seem to be confused as to what HID lights really are. HID lights are bulbs that do not have a filiment. Instead it derives it's light from an arc of electricity igniting the gas within a sealed bulb. A high voltage ballast is needed to get the lights going. It's not unlike now a neon light works. The main advantages are reduced electricty usage compared to standard halogen (35w vs 50-55w). The light is also closer to daylight. Many people mistakenly believe the color is blue simply because they are used to halogen headlamps which is a very yellow light. All HID light require an autoleveling device to make sure the lights are properly aimed.

What many people have which give HID a bad name are all sorts of bad knockoffs promoted by snakeoil salesman. They claim to be "xenon" lamps because they have a "small amount" of xenon (so they claim) in the bulb to supposidly "equals" HID. In fact, they are just standard halogen bulbs that have been overwatted to 65, 85, or more and tinted blue. Many are unknowingly oveloading their wiring and potentially melting their reflectors. These aftermarket "xenon" bulbs are unfocused and throw light everywhere. Many complaint against "HID" lamps can be attributed to these fake bulbs.
