Love the game, but HELP!! (not going to start another thread) chysilids.. (or how ever you spell um) how to deal with. Im not having any problem till i hit them.. I can drop anything, but they eat dmag to no end.. and add a few humans (exploding) and Im toast every time. Do I need ot just sit and cover till they kill every human and i can basicly concentration fire on um????? they move so f-ing fast.. 2-3 close and my team is toast as it takes 3-4 maraines shot to take one down.. the next one has nobody to shoot at it. Frustration is setting in, other aliens I can deal with (disc even) bu these guys are troubling me.

The bugs that make zombies? I chase them down aggressively in groups each group either has a sniper or an assault trooper with the two shot ability. Hopefully that still works on iron man

Kill them: 1) ASAP, and 2) from a distance (snipe, then assault rifles, then finish with shotguns). Then quickly deal with any risen zombies before they have a chance to mutate.

Kill speed is of the essence as once the map is overrun with these things, you might as well just retreat or lose the whole squad.

Also remember to use overwatch. And I pick the skill for assault guys that gives them a free extra shot when an alien closes to melee range.

Shotgun may be my missing part. I have only ran into missions where there are 3+ all within one move of me.. my 6 guys cant kill 3 in a round. I normally end up with one dead (chrys) one injection on one or more of my guys) and one running to humans. So in the rounds that follow i have 1 of my guys, 1 alien and alien running around in dark injecting humans and a non stop horde of them (exploding humans) coming while i chase it down. part of it might be that I keep getting CRAP mission settups.. or i just suck :) I will try a bit with shotgun. Thanks for tips.. I am a slow cover fire player, so aggressive is hard to grasp for me.

I picked Xcom up again and kicked up the difficulty to Classic, which is ok so far. It took me a little bit to get back into the swing of things, but man the RNG in this game is obnoxious. Almost every soldier lost is oneshot by a crit, it gets old. Not sure if I'll really stick with it for a second run through; at some point creeping your soldiers along tile by tile just to ensure you don't get instantly lit up is just tiresome.

Yeah that happens until you upgrade the armor. Carapace Armor improves things significantly.

Thing is, that creeping along tile-by-tile is what would actually happen IRL, so it feels more accurate to me. And if you do it right with everyone covering each other and overwatch, you get some very satisfying overwatch kills. I once took out 2 mutons and wounded a 3rd on overwatch (and the 3rd was quickly dealt with next turn). That was fun.

What sucks is when you run into Etherials who mind-control your troops, and you're forced to move quickly and take inordinate risks or kill the mind-controlled trooper yourself.

Ah, so many reasons to love this game. If only they had base assaults. :p

I'm thinking you've been creeping up the map too slowly for the starting Chrys to have killed enough civilians (and for the resulting zombies to morph into more Chrys). Very rarely do I encounter 3 Chrys simultaneously, certainly not early in the game when my weapons & armors are still too basic.

I find keeping my distance and having most of my men on Overwatch (while the Chrys have to move towards them) really helps with these creatures. It does get a little *hot* if there are other shooting critters engaging me at the same time but that's where the cover system becomes really useful.

Rumours have it that new expansion (not just a lousy DLC that adds hello kitty dildo pistols) is going to be announced at... what's the name, Gamescon? Or something. About time they do something about the game really, it's nice and everything, but it lacks something the original game had. It just gets old too fast.
