Not yet. Like I said, slightly twitchy. Haven't hit any bugs yet, but the levels take absurdly long to load, even off of an SSD, and there's room for performance tweaks.

Fix the performance stuff, and I will. it's just not a completely blissful experience right out of the box.

I think I'll hold off then cause I would be playing on a potato gpu HD 5850.

Loved Xcom EU. Loved Xcom EW.

Loving Xcom2! It's got some rough around the edges for sure, but not enough to keep me from enjoying it.

Anyone else playing Commander mode ? I feel like I am punishing myself. Hard as balls. Don't even want to try the hardest difficulty. Maybe I am just not optimizing my soldiers right.

Awesome game

I've currently got a commander Ironman run going. Haven't lost any soldiers but I did fail one mission (timers!). I fanned out a little too wide in that mission. You've got to really set them as the top priority then they aren't too bad. They tend to pretty poorly protect objectives. I would have done much worst but in my missions Sectoids have been wasting turns reanimating and mind controlling instead of exterminating.

But I may have already lost this run. I'm about seven missions in and haven't gotten a single engineer so I'm falling behind on upgrades.

Xenonauts was great - but if that's your thing, then yeah, this isn't the game for you.

The scripting killed EU and EW.

The freedom of Xenonauts, UFO:EU, TFTD etc. was what made them what they are imo.

The more I hear about X-COM 2 the more it sounds like it has the same flaws as X-COM:EU so like EU it'll be a buy when cheap kind of pickup.

I really should install Xenonauts since I have had it on my computer for the longest time.

Yeah I'm playing Commander. Difficult for me, but I'm hanging in there. The biggest problem I'm having is managing the wounded soldiers. 75% of my roster is currently wounded 😱 But I've just upgraded to new armor which is making a big difference so I'm thinking it may be a bit easier for a little while.

OK going to get this tonight, any tips for starting out? Haven’t played XCOM in a while and I remember struggling at the start, not knowing what to build or upgrade etc. Any beginners tips?

Place your workshop in the middle of your base and place buildings that can be staffed by engineers adjacent to the workshop. Build power on the room with power conduit in it. Otherwise building placement doesn't matter.

OK, cool. thanks.

Which fits the atmosphere. You are the resistance - you don't have the resources to dillydally and hanging around too long puts you at risk of being overwhelmed by enemy reinforcements. Plus it gives you a reason to play in a way other than "creep forward, overwatch, repeat" which was undeniably safe and effective but also very boring.

I know people don't like timers because it makes things more difficult, losses more likely, etc. But time is absolutely a finite resource. I think keeping it in play adds a real sense of urgency and makes your decision-making and strategizing more involved.

Stupid Advent Timer. Fuck you. This whole game is a fucking Timed Mission.
yeah.. I am getting tired of everything being timed also, twice now I ended levels on the very last turn before "forced retreat" whatever that ends up being. Both of those missions I was doing everything I could, 90%+ accuracy on shots, maximum forward movement, upgraded weapons, my entire team made it but they were all "gravely wounded"

I appreciate a good challenge, I beat all the souls games and bloodborne on NG+ and other hard games like that. But this is taking all the strategy out of a strategy game and removing the fun along with it. The first game so far is way better for me. This game has some neat stuff, the base and new upgrades are fun, I like the new abilities, but that element of the timers is just ruining all the great things they added. If they want to have timers to speed it up some then that is fine, but starting a mission with 10 turns to make it across an entire map, kill 15 enemies and capture a VIP and make it to the LZ is complete BS.

You don't have to kill those 15 enemies. Surgical strike. In, out, controlled retreat to the LZ.

I try that, problem is they call in reinforcements by the 5th turn and they landed on the exact same roof of my LZ.. then they went into overwatch mode and have perfect aim every time. Which cracks me up because now I seem to be at a spot where anything less than 90% for me to hit is actually a 30% chance and even then 50% of those are a dodge:grazed.

I am also just constantly finding more and more issues with this game where I think they just released it way too early and without much of any game testing at all.

Xcom2 6/10 for me in it's current state.

The game is a fair bit more playable with the animations at double speed (changed in defaultanimation ini).

I find using 3 grenadiers 1 psi op 2 specialists and a sniper is fairly overpowered. Found the game very easy on 2nd hardest difficulty. You can really spam the nades.

If they are on a roof in overwatch, you have a couple of options.

1) Launch a grenade at them from your heavy weapons guy. Damage takes them out of overwatch.

2) If you have a ranger with the ability that they ignore overwatch, that is a good chance to run up close and do some damage/toss a nade.

3) Use your snipers to do damage and take them out of overwatch.

I actually haven't run into any bugs yet. Only "problem" with the game I've encountered is that it sometimes takes a while to get through the animations and continue the turn.

Also, there is a mod out already that removes turn timers for everything except main story missions.

Loving this game so far. Made a bit of a mess at the start and was only recovering before getting totally hammered again lately, need better weapons. Great fun overall though, finding it pretty difficult as it's my first playthrough and I obviously did something (lots of things?) wrong along the way (building etc.) but am still hanging in there. Still not sure if I'll survive but exciting anyway. Great game so far. Will definitely be replaying as soon as I finish.

I thought FPS doesn't matter in a turn based game. I remember playing Civilization for the first time and it was laggy as hell but it didn't matter either because you have no real control over anything anyway. So Xcom could get like 15fps and it shouldn't matter right?

It won't affect the outcome of the game, but it sure isn't pretty and hurts immersion.
