If you have free mobile to mobile minutes, this may be worth looking into. It fools your cell phone company into thinking you are calling a phone number that is in network, but you are in fact being rerouted over a voip connection to whoever you want to call (other cell phone companies or landline number), so get the lowest calling plan and just make sure you have unlimited mobile to mobile minutes.

Don't count on it staying up very long. This completely violates the TOS of the cell company. All they have to do is shut down the lines.

How does it violate the TOS?

I realise cell phone companies are probably going to panic and block this anyway, but wouldn't it make more sense for them to be cooperative? Like partnering with this company, paying them $5 a month per user, and then offering users unlimited calling on a $40 per month plan, with VOIP handling all the outgoings? It's a cool idea, and would eliminate having to dial another cell number + your destination number, like a calling card.

A cell phone company with some vision could benefit a lot from something like this, especially if they could buy the company and make this an in-house department, or build something similar on a large-enough scale to handle the call volumes.

Wow, this looks pretty fcking slick. I'd give this a second look if I wasn't committed to Verizon. Still, will keep this on the radar in case Vz becomes supported.

Ahhh,
Finally getting closer and closer to when cellular service will be cost competitive with landline service. Between this, Skype, Vonage, et al. it is starting to get exciting in terms of competition driving down costs. Thanks for the link: I had not heard of this service.

First of all, use some fscking punctuation, your senseless babbling could be aided by it.

Secondly, could you not find the cheapest plan with mobile to mobile yourself faster with the click of a few buttons rather than expecting someone else generous enough to do all the work for you? You may notice that I am not that person. Lazy people piss me off!

Tmobile would be the cheapest. Basic plan = $19.99 + $6.99 (for unlimited tmo to tmo) = $26.98 + $9.99 (Xcelis) = $36.97/mo unlimited calling (+taxes)
Cheapest Cingular plan = $39.99

EDIT: Remember Tmo's plan has only 60 whenever mins and 500 wknd mins. You still get charged for incomings, so unless a person is willing to let it ring once, then do a call back, it won't be worth it IMO. Too much hassle + you can't use your cell/SIM's phonebook feature.

Mostly unrelated, but hopefully this year (2005), Nokia and Cisco are going to partner on a VoIP/wireless "cell phone". The phone will use cell phone service when outside and not in a WiFi area and when you go home/to Starbucks, it'll switch over to use WiFi and VoIP. Pretty cool.

and for the wireless/voip phone will the wireless access be free that is really the main question i just want some decent free access why couldnt this xcellis service use a toll free 800 number so to get more network compatibility
another question is do they provide a prepaid service that will do free mobile to mobile i really just want a cheap cell phone
do cell phones charge for 800 numbers so couldnt i just use regular phone cards

You have the internet, use it! AT&T prepaid, don't know if they have free M2M, I doubt it though. Don't know about Tmo's prepaid either.
Search around on howardforums DOT com if you have any other wireless ?'s.
Xcelis ONLY works with Cing & Tmo. Don't bother looking around for another carrier that has free M2M.
Cell co's do take out 800 calls from your minute bucket so no, not technically free.

they wouldnt want to partner with this company because they can already do this, they DO already do this and it costs $$ to run thats why they charge you for talking on your cell phone...

:confused:My head hurts after reading this. Please use commas, periods, and other appropiate grammar and punctuation when typing. It really helps us out when treying to read.

If the max you are willing to spend is $20, just get a prepaid service and be done with it. As far as I know, to get mobile to mobile on prepaid, you have to pay a small fee per month, if they even provide mobile to mobile that is.

Cell phones use minutes for 800 numbers, even when using a phonecard, unless your phone possibly has a specific feature to imput/use a phonecard. Even then, it depends on your phone and service.
