id buy a SONY PS3, if only for GT5

but i dunno, i always find the sony playstations to be the more attractive bit of kit, i got a PS2 over a XBOX, the xbox never really appealed to me since it was just PC parts in a grey n green box

the sony PS2 might not have been the best machine, but it was the more interesting of the 2

I ordered my Xbox 360 on a pre-order. Im quite stocked. I saved some $$ by getting a bundle. Sure, some of the games that come with it arent my fav, but there are a couple that i will enjoy plus i ordered some others. Ive read that developers are leaning heaving to the Xbox side. I think the PS3 will be 9-12 months behind the release of MS, so that gives them quite a window to release a lot more titles.

Xbox sucked, had the crappiest line up of games as well. Halo is sooo damn over rated, I can't figure out what makes it so damn popular, it offers nothing special at all.

Uhh...isn't Nintendo's system suppose to come out in roughly the same time frame as Sony's PS3?

At this point, it's believe Sony's hype or MS's hype. I think for the most part, MS has a somewhat clean track record besides the standard hyping of their system goes. The thing I'm most worried about is the quality of the final product as they seem to be under pressure to cut some cost of the so far money losing games division. MS also hasn't met a developer they won't throw money at. I'm worried that pressure by MS on some developers it has bought to put out a product may affect overall quality of the games. Some real exclusives due to all the developers they've bought out, most notably Halo, but aside from that nothing spectacular. It's also arguable that Halo while good, isn't on par with games in the PC world like HL2.

Sony on the other hand promises your epenis size will grow by 6 inches if you buy their system. Sony's game division has overhyped their PS2 before. It's not even that much more powerful than Nintendo's Gamecube (though the media sizes of full DVD's vs those mini sized discs Nintendo uses are much larger). Sony's other corporate arms (most notably the phantom reviewer giving good marks to Sony movies) also doesn't help it's overall corporate image. Aside from Gran Turismo (a definite awesome game), what does Sony make that really makes it a good software company? Most of the hits on Sony's system can be atributed to 3rd parties who can go multi-console with their systems. Too much hype and lies Sony, only morons and fanboys still believe in your BS.

Nintendo has always been about gameplay over raw stats. It's systems has for the most part never been the most powerful but at the same time, they've done incredible stuff with it. I mean, how many games or ideas have other companies copied off of Nintendo? That's not to say Nintendo doesn't incorporate ideas from other companies of course. I'm expecting the Revolution to be a decent system hardware wise, nothing flashy but not underpowered by any means. They're also not afraid to innovate where gameplay is concerned. If that doesn't earn your support as a true gamer then nothing will. Go back to Sony and MS and their tired old franchises and recycled ideas.

That said, it's very likely I will own all 3 systems.

IMO the benifits with a console are very nice, you dont have to worry about your $500 video card being sufficient enough to play a FPS and you dont have to worry about if the game is using EAX.

Other hand, you have more freedom with a PC game and more options and features to choose from. Mouse and keyboard cant be matched with RTS and FPS games.

And most are on the PC or other consoles. I only buy consoles that have proprietary games and the Xbox only game list pretty much blows, IMO. Halo? been there done that. Xbox seems focused more on FPS. the PS2 had a better variety. Hell, I chose a gamecube over the Xbox. It doesnt matter how many titles a console has, its all about how good the games are, and the Xbox just didnt cut it for me which is why I have a game cube and a ps2 and will most likely get the ps3. if a game is slated for the pc I bypass all consoles and get the pc version. Plus, the xbox was fugly. :)

The gamecube has nothing compared to the Xbox, maybe a few games.

Resident Evil series
Pikmin Series
Mario Sunshine
Metroid

I owned a gamecube, I got so sick of the same games so I sold it.

Here are some good 1st party (not proprietary) game's for the Xbox.

Jade Empire
Halo1
Halo 2
Forza Motorsport
Project Gotham Racing Series
Dead or Alive series
Morrowind
KOTOR series
Ninja Gaiden
Doom 3
Fable
Unreal Championship
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Crimson Tides: High Road to Revenge
Jet Set Radio Future
GUNVALKYRIE
Amped 2

Barely any of which is on PC.

While its not as much as the PS2 has, it has not been out as long nor has the support from developers. Since EA practically loves sony jk. I have nothing against the PS2, its that the games are overrated (Final Fantasy) IMO and the graphics literally hurt my eye's. Plus the ports from PS2 end up having better control and looking a little better.

Where's the option for 'wait till both are out and then decide' I'm leaning toward an Xbox360, but not until the first price cut.

I don't like the CPU going in either of them, but if I had to choose I'd get a 360. Knowing how much of a hype machine Sony is, the PS3 isn't going to be anywhere near as powerful as they're making it out to be. I don't care about how many terra flips or flops it can do. I don't care about how fast it can run at 100% capacity in fairly land. All I care about is realworld performance. That, and of course the games.

I agree with lots of posters about the nintendo. The only console that has come with games with replay after replay after replay value has been the nintendo for me. (and the Dreamcast, but that's dead....move on...*sniff*).

Of course, I never actually owned an Xbox, PS1, PS2, N64, Dreamcast, Gamecube, etc... 'cause my roomates always had 'em.

yeah, I agree!! How can a console that has a "gpu 7800" not have better games!!

People really think this way? I bet Sony could make a HD version of Pong as its only release game and people would still buy PS3s.

As you were saying?

Mhz stats prove nothing, though I'm not even sure why you listed it. You're on a computer hardware forum and should know AMD > Intel when it comes to mhz vs mhz. Some systems are designed more efficiently and while the tech stats look weaker, it's actually more powerful.

In terms of the games developed and what developers were able to do with the hardware where there are cross platform games or games in similar genres, graphics are similar in terms of overall quality. Gameplay wise it's all up to the developers of course, you can have crap graphics and awesome gamplay or great graphics and crap gameplay.

Sony has hyped the PS2 and now the PS3 to heck and back. The way Sony hyped the PS2 and now the PS3, it's suppose to be super duper extra zany powerful. Again, I'm not saying the PS2 is a weak system compared to Gamecube and Xbox. In fact, I rank the power rating as Xbox, PS2, Gamecube. However, after all the hype and technical stats have been stripped away, when you compare the games that are on each system, the PS2 has not wowed me with games that would take a serious graphics hit if ported to Gamecube or Xbox. Look at most of the multi-console games and they all look remarkably similar.

Like I said, I own all three current generation game consoles and will likely own all of the next ones. My take is that all 3 systems will perform remarkably similar just as they do in this generation. Just as they did with the SNES and Genesis.

Sony is my least favorite company in the way they operate due to all the massive hype. And I still say if you still believe all the Sony hype without reservation and that the other systems are going to suck compared to the PS3, you're nothing but a fanboy.

From a development perspective, The xbox is loads more powerful than the ps2. We have to strip lots of content to fit the ps2's limitations. The gamecube not as much, but it not nearly as powerful as the xbox either.

The trouble with Sony and the playstation is that they create an awesomepeice of hardware that has great theoretical performance, and has the API from hell. Even if the ps3 does end up being more powerful on paper than the xhox360, it will be a real struggle to extract that performance.

As much as i'd like to declare my allegiance to either system, I'll probably end up getting both at some point or another. Maybe a year after they've been released. Very few titles on the consoles have really made me feel 'compelled' to get one. Halo was one of those, although it did come out for PC (albeit not the best port to date).

Or, since I do most of my gaming (which isn't much to begin with) on the PC right now I might just fade out completely from the console scene. A few years ago it was a different story: I couldn't wait to get my hands on all three next-gen console systems. At this point, i'm still waiting for Starcraft: Ghost, but I'm not too sure that either MS, Nintendo or Sony will be able to to pull me in this time around.
