XBox Woes???

Just out of curiosity, how many of the people who have xboxes, are continuously getting "read error" messages, or just having problems with the units consistantly reading the dvd's??? considering the cost of the unit, it's pretty irritating that they are so unreliable. then again, gotta remember that ms is the driving force sooooooo...............................

anyway, if you're having problems, voice 'em and maybe we can be heard

i've never had a problem, and the xbox is supposed to have the best dvd player out of the systems. you should return the xbox. its nothing neew, some ps2s won't even play dvds. their called bad units.

Dude, I can't even BUY the remote to try out the DVD player. Every place around me is sold out.

For games I've only had one error message and I've been playing constantly for 3 months.

I have had one little freak out; in DOA3, playing 4 player, at the character select screen everyone was very quickly moving their selectors, and it actually froze up... but that was minor, and thats the only glitch i've ever had...

No errors on mine yet When I play Amped, the system freezes occasionally, but apparently it's because the disc is scratched.

dude8604,

I don't own an xbox, but I've seen the DVD remotes all around town here in Charlotte, NC. Xboxes are everywhere as well. My local Sam's Club had a ton of the DVD remotes.

I have had the Xbox for months and three times I have gotten a message that says this DVD can't be played without the DVD unit while starting the system with a game. I take a second to reset it and it works fine. No problems other than that. Works great.

I would not recommend the XBox to my worst enemy.

Like I posted a few days ago, XBoxes are failing at record rates, and Microsoft is refusing to replace them because they would lose even more money than they already are on the whole XBox project.

This whole thing is an absolute scandal.

Microsoft has absolutely no experience in the hardware market, and it shows.

Do yourself a favor and get a proper console that works. (PS2)

we bought the unit before xmas and have had intermittant problems ever since; gets much worse if the dvd's get a bit smudged. I think it's too late to return the unit, but I'm not happy with it. We've tried cleaning and re-surfacing the dvd's but no luck. halo and shrek won't even play now, and a third one has to be inserted several times. Figured the graphics would be worth it, but considering that we can only play it 60% of the time.................................... ahhhh well, live and learn

Did anyone read the "Official XBox Magazine" before the XBox was released? They had some article with 100 reasons to buy on xbox, and one of them was an attack on the PS2's dvd support. They poked fun at the PS2's ability to use normal controllers for dvd playing... but they failed to point out that you can buy dvd remotes for both systems, it is only REQUIRED on the xbox, which is pretty lame. Anyway, this pissed me off and I threw away the magazine (and it wasnt even mine)

just venting... its good for you, right?

YelowPlastic -- the link you posted was junk. You just hate Microsoft a little too much 🙂 I dislike them as well, but I don't go Microsoft bashing, just like I do not go Intel or AMD bashing.

Give it up please.

any proof on the failure rates?

bah 2 of my friends got xboxes around the time they came out, had lots of weird dvd reading errors that just got worse and worse and they exchanged them at the store(1 got a ps2 and the other guy got a gamecube). my guess would be that about 10% of xboxes have problems, it's not horrible but it's worse than Nintendo( never heard of any nintendo hardware going bad before). I know sony had some minor overheating problems with the originla playstation though. I got a Ps2 yeasterday anyways and it rules.

10% is very high! I seriously doubt that high, maybe 1%. A few times I have had read errors with Halo, but nothing major.

Sorry to hear about your problems man....but all manufacturers who make ANYTHING are going to have defective units, especially if it is first gen.

my friend has one and his HALO cd constantly gets those read error messages. The Cd isn't scratched either. THe Xbox has some weirdo problemos.

In this one thread alone, we get more than 10% of the posters complaining about defective XBoxes.

Have you ever seen this percentage of complaints about defective PS2's? Gamecubes? NES'es?

No way.

This thread itself is proof of the absolute failure that is XBox.
