It really depends on what games you want. I think the Playstation systems themselves always have the largest/best selection of games (by the end of their lifetime). The 360 is doing very well, though...much more so than the original Xbox.
Basically, if you're into Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Killzone (sequel could be very good) and a few other PS exclusives (well, MGS4...very slight chance it won't be), you'll want at PS3.
360 also has a lot of good games coming out, but I'm not sure if it has as many big exclusives (aside from Halo 3 and such). Yeah, if you want Halo...you know where to go. The 360 is very centered around Live, so you'll probably not use the 360's full potential.
I'd recommend the PS3, personally.

Dont get a PS3 if you dont wanna be connected to the web with it... after all, they release a new firmware like every week or two that you'll be missing out on.

Not every game for every taste but the 360 is doing something the original Xbox didn't...provide a wide variety of games. About the only thing it is lacking on right now is platformers and party games (Fusion Frenzy 2 is blech).
only idiots who move their console while the disc is inside (or even worse move it WHILE its on) have that problem. my 360 hasn't scratched a single disc in 6 months (time i've had it) but then again i don't move it while its on like a moron.Originally posted by: mlm

I agree the 360 has a high failure rate but the company sends you a box to your doorstep and pays for shipping to and from the repair shop so no cost to you as long as you have their warrenty.
It depends on who you talk to. Some CSR's will tell you that they'll only pay shipping and send a box if you're in your first 30 days. Most people have had to cover that themselves lately.
Also, once you receive a refurbed 360, you're only given a 90-day warranty unless you had bought an extended warranty.

I have never heard or ever seen a 360 ever scratch up a disc ever!
Apparently there's a class action lawsuit going on for scratched discs.

On PS3 side, expect these this year:
Ninja Gaiden Sigma*

Wrong, there are several 360-reliability threads at ArsTechnica where experienced gamers (not slack-jawed yokels) mention disc scratching problems with 360's that were on a stable surface and not moved while in use.Originally posted by: tanishalfelven

The EU investigation is also not about people bumping 360's while in use.
You sound like the people who claimed that anyone who had the red rings of death must be at fault for not giving the 360 proper ventilation.
"Mine works, so any problems you have are your fault for misusing it!"
Nope, it's just a poorly manufactured system that badly needs a redesign. Good specs, good games, not so good reliability.

Psuedo-exclusive? Xbox owners have already had two versions of Ninja Gaiden for a couple of years now. This is yet another update just for the PS3 now with the ability to play as a girl.

Well in the summer, new games like Bioshock are on the 360...
plus Blue Dragon, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Eternal Sonata, Assassin's Creed, Lost Odyssey, GTA IV, Naruto, Alone in the Dark, Rock Band, Army of Two, Splinter Cell:Conviction going into the holidays.
(I picked games likely to have good off-line gameplay)

i played the demo and it looks amazing...don't know how much the gameplay is similar, but the graphics are astounding.

Actually, nevermind, somebody just won a BBB case about this
MS is TELLING people that they will only get 90 days or the remainder of their warranty if you didn't pay, but there's nothing that backs that up in the contract. So you really are supposed to be getting a full year regardless of how the "repair" (used loosely considering nobody gets back their original) is handled.

Wait - what? I thought it is normal for a replaced product to only have the remainder of the original warranty. I don't believe it is normal for a warranty repair to "restart the clock" on the warranty. Do you have a link for this?
