XBOX Vs. PS2

I am planning to buy a XBOX / PS2 for one of my cousins.

I am unable to decide which one to buy, as i have no idea what are the pros and cons of each. Need your inputs on these.

Also one fundamental doubt that i have is can a PS2 game be played on a XBOX?

Thanks in advance.

this is a flame war in teh start, so duck....

no ps2 cannot play xbox games and vice versa. I like ps2 better, but that is my opinion.

the thing is it doesn't have to be a flame war.

get the system that plays the games you like. Personally I like having both - get to play awesome PS2 titles like ratchet and clank and Halo 2 on the xbox.

no you can't play a ps2 game on an xbox or vice versa. xbox has better online games right now, and a better online community. ps2 has a better library and tons and tons of great games that can be found really cheap, and also has been increasing its amount of online titles recently. you can't really lose either way. i think gamecube is also an excellent system, i have all 3.

I remember the flood of threads like these when the systems first came out. And no, PS2 games can not be played on an XBOX and vice versa. If you are going the sony route, you should just wait for PS3 to come out, otherwise buy a XBOX

i have had all 3, and currently just have xbox and ps2, but my ps2 collects dust. i would say if the target audience is over 13 years old, either ps2 or xbox will be fine. i personally play xbox for the following:

-xbox has better graphics than ps2, and alot of games are developed for both systems and they always come out better on xbox
-xbox loads alot faster than ps2
-xbox does not need a memory card, because of the hard drive
-xbox does not require an additional purchase to get a network adapter, its built in
-ps2 has more/better exclusive titles IMO(with the exclusion of Halo 2 and some others), but i also have xbox so thats not a problem.

but honestly, when I think about it, the majority of the games that I personally play are on both systems, and like I pointed out, they always are the best on xbox.

aside from that, if you want to take your console online, get XBox. I just got xbox live like 2 months ago and I now regret not getting it sooner. it is the most fun I have had with a console in years. and if you are going to go with the modding scene, xbox is way better because you can virtually turn it into a media center.

but i just honestly haven't even wanted to play ps2 in months, even with GTA:SA out. I played it at a friends, but then i went back to burnout 3 and Mortal Kombat Deception on xbox live. xbox live will have you playing games you never really thought you would play.

my vote is for the xbox.

I have an Atari 2600-Dreamcast-Sega-Nintendo-Gameboy advance-Xbox-playstation-playstation 2-Gamecube-Intellevision-I also have issues with making choices

The PS2 has more/better games. And the new smaller PSTwo DOES have an onboard network adapter. It's now built in.

ah i was unaware of that.

btw your better games thing is strictly opinion

Xbox has much better FPS's than PS2 IMO. I also like the S controllers for the xbox better than the small PS2 controllers. Of course modding an xbox is good fun too.

Keep in mind Sony has an exclusive contract with Square with it's Final Fantasy titles. So if your cousin is really into RPGs and not so much into FPSs, you might want to look at a PS2

yea i personally hate RPG's, but you can't leave out KOTOR (i don't think this is coming out for ps2, but it might). from what i hear, KOTOR is amazing for RPG fans, and the sequel comes out next month I believe.
