XBox vs PS2 (Gamecube NOT an option)

I know this is OLD news and NOT COMPUTER-related BUT could you'all try to give me a BRIEF opinion on the 1) graphics quality, 2) game playability and 3) geneneral functionality of the X-box vs. the PS2.

I am familiar with their general specifications and hardware utilized as well as the smaller availability of software titles for XBox vs PS2.

However, it YOU were going out TODAY to lay down $300 bucks, would you "bank" on XBox for the upcoming features like Broadband Online Gaming or the current features such as Dolby Digital compliance, internal hard drive, HDTV adapter kit, etc....

Thanks, and web master, PLEASE don't "throw out" or "lock" this thread.... please????🙂 🙂

I voted for ps2, but I would probably go for xbox but only because of the price xbox has a lot more bang for the buck in terms of the system, but than again i only know a few games that i would want to play on it right now. It all depends if u want a great gaming experience now or when xbox games start getting good and a lot of em.

Personally, I feel too matured for those Gamecube games, so I wouldn't recommend it. I do have experience with all three consoles, and I still like PS2 best because of the wide variety of games it has, almost everything XBox has right now is available on PS2. But no doubt, XBox has the upper hand in graphics, I've seen DOA2 Hardcore on PS2 and DOA3 on XBox so I can attest to this fact. But overall, I think it still comes down to personal taste, if you like the group of games on the PS2, then go for it, and same for XBox if you like its games better. I would say the XBox games are more "action-packed" because more American developers are involved; while the PS2 games are more "story-packed" RPG-like which the Japanese developers are known for. Again, you can make your decision base on the type of games you like.

It's all on preference, really. That is, regarding Gamecube and PS2/XBOX. Gamecube is targetted more towards the younger audience with remakes of old games like Metroid, Zelda and the like. If you enjoy those types of games, the Gamecube would be for you.

As per XBox vs. PS2, I'd lean more towards the PS2 at the moment by virtue of the titles that Sony already has on their side. XBox doesn't have much of a great game selection at the moment, but when they do...I'd go for XBox in a heartbeat.

Don't get me wrong, they do have great games right now, just not all that many. I like the variety of the PS2 right now.

ps2 because of the titles. but the only recent console i have is a cube, so thats my thought on it.

so far the graphics on the xbox look good but the titles themselves leave something to be desired... say... gameplay and story lines. the devs on the games spend a little too much time on the graphics engines and not enough on thinking about how the player should play the game, it seems.

Why would someone be undecisive? I'd wait for better games.

Surely you must have an idea of what kinds if not what specific games you want to play, you ought to be able to figure out what system you're better off with.

It's a shame that all games aren't cross platform...

I mean, at the moment, I'd get a Gamecube for Smash Brothers Melee.
I'd get an X-BOX maybe for Dead or Alive 3.
I'd get a PS2 for Capcom vs SNK2, Virtua Fighter 4, Street Fighter EX 3, Tekken Tag Tournament, and this September Tekken 4 comes out.

Luckily my brother bought a PS2...and I can't afford to buy anything hehe.

edit:

my bias towards a certain video game genre is rather evident 🙂

If all of these were on the PC, I probably might have some incentive to ugprade my computer (whereas right now I have none.)

<< even though i dont like microsuft.. id go for gamecube >>

That's cool for you then, because Microsoft doesn't make gamecube =P.

its funny how people will tell you that its all a matter of personal taste but will also slam xbox for not having any "great" games... hrmm somethings funny. Anyway, xbox has plenty of good games, and good exlusives as well. JSFR, Gunvalkier (sp?), Halo, DOA3, Amped, Bloodwake, WWF Raw... those are games that I (as in me) believe are great;... maybe thats why I own them... but they may not necessarily be the best. In anycase, read reviews of the games and see what things you like... Sure PS2 has more games (much more) but it must have more games YOU want... not just more games. Also look @ the future of the consoles... look into future games. I'm biased towards xbox as its what I have (and i believe everyone has some degree of bias especially if they own a specific console). In any case, the only one who can make the decision is you because you're the one who's gonna fork the cash over. my opinion is that xbox has better graphics and a very bright future... but you may think differently.

anyway, both (actually all three) seem to be good systems on their own so which ever one you pick you're sure to get a great gaming experience... I hope you like what you get as much as I like my xbox.

I would get a gamecube.. but sence you knocked out that choice I would go for a PS2.

I have played all three system and most games for them. I own a GC and love it. As for the PS2, I am still not happy with the graphics... they are subpar even for the PS2. So far the new games have been making up for it in shear playablity. The Xbox on the other hand I have found to be a dissapointment. They graphics are ok but unless you have a HDTV you will not be as impressed compaired to your computer. (Same with the GC). So far the games just have not had the palyability that I wanted. I played and beat halo, and it was just too short of a game... We still play it weekly. We have a "game night" and we hook too Xbox's up via a crossover cable. The we have 8 players battling it out. The only reason it is fun is becuase all of your friends are there. I play counterstrike and ut daily at school on lane games for a good 2 hours and halo doesn't even come close to the fun of thoughs games.

I don't wanna start any kind of flame war, but someone said the GC caters to the younger audiance. I still don't understand this. Resident Evil is not really a "kiddy" game. Nor was perfect dark for the N64. The N64 had the missfortune of not having enough texture room for the games. This gave almost all games a kiddy appearence. The GC does have games for kids but so does all the other systems. Nintendo is just making a good finacial move and covering the children market as well.

Also on the topic of consoles, does anyone know if Square is making FF... for the gamecube or another game. I know that they are making a game but what game!! Most people say final fantasy but i just don't know.
