um... Who Cares?!?!?!

All the manufactures are probably padding the numbers anyways. The real question is where can we get it at a nice discount! :)

They sold more of my car than your car, so it's better.

Remember, sales don't matter as much as profit.

Video game companies don't make profit on their consoles. Period.

Nintendo will start making profits sooner than MS, but the more units you have sold, the more games you have sold. The more games you have sold the more profits you have. Which is why the Xbox software out pacing the GC software is actually more important in terms of future profit, but you need to sell alot of consoles if you intend to make a lot of profit.

If you look at the hardware though, the XBOX is definitely taking a bigger hit in terms of profit per console (or rather loss/console) than GC,
GC will probably break even (or even profit) in the hardware side faster than XBOX.

Well yeah thats a given... In the end it will still come down to who sells more consoles. I still predict the GC and Xbox will have sold 12-15million units in the US by next Xmas... They might sell a million or two in Japan(if they are lucky).

Chrono,

The numbers being quoted are not just from Launch day, but include numbers for that week. Please remember that Microsoft didn't just ship out 350,000 consoles and then STOP production of the X-Box. Microsoft has the manufacturing capability to pump out roughly 150,000 consoles per week at full capacity. Assuming they are at full capacity, that means the week following launch, Microsoft sold 150,000 pieces. Actually if you want the EXACT numbers, according to CSFB here they are:

First 3 days (November 15th-17th): 370,000 consoles sold
Next 7 days (November 18th-24th): 186,000 consoles sold
Combined totals: 556,000 consoles sold
With a tie in ratio of 2.4 that translates into 1,334,400 games sold for X-Box.

Thats how 500,000+ X-Boxes can be sold as of November 24th.

Given that GameCube shipped 3 days after X-Box, the numbers are pretty close in both hardware and software sales if you consider that X-Box has quite a few more launch titles than GameCube does.

People keep saying that the GC isn't good because it doesn't have a DVD player, for the $100 that you save you can get a standalone DVD player and put it wherever the hell you want.

You know what a lot of ppl seem to not realise, is it's quite a statement that the XBOX has sold more units, when you put into the equation that it costs a cool 100 dollars more.
