well i am not sure but i saw an interesting blurb on tech tv...and apparently they are not really compitition for each other...atleast not as much as ps2 and the xbox are going to be...nintendo is a family console...and their focus is really young people..while ps2 and xbox inparticular are catering to the 18-30+ male crowd

I think in the past Nintendo has been aiming primarily at the younger crowd. I think the Gamecube will be a little different, Resident Evil for the Gamecube is gettting plenty of hype. Im 25, been gaming for 20 years and can say just because a game has violence and gore dosent make it good. Games like Zelda, Mario , Metroid....;) all of these are GREAT no matter the age. I think when the playstation one came along and did something different by giving us "adult" games it was new and cool, We've all seen that now and its old news. I will be picking up a Gamecube for a couple reasons, Nintendo is the master of GREAT GAMES , I dont need my system to play cds and dvds , and its cheaper. I feel like the gamecube is catering to gamers....and the xbox and ps2 can keep thier halfa$$ "adult" games.;)

I kinda got on a rant there but this is my first time speaking about the "systemwars". Thanx for your input

Combinded in a week they have sold more units that Sony did in 6 months LOL... They are about neck and neck in terms of sales. Xbox is slightly lagging.

xbox is lagging behind mostly because they shipped less than half of what nintendo did...(# of consoles).

I believe over at B3D I read that as of Sunday XBox had sold something like 243K and Gamecube had sold like 350K(those numbers arent exact but kinda close to what I remember)...so Gamecube in one day had beaten XBox in 3, but that wasn't very telling, because XBox sold a signifigantly higher portion of what they had available so at lot more places were sold out so had there been more they would have sold more.

I saw a second-hand report on Usenet that to this date 85% of all retailers carrying the Xbox have sold out, whereas 54% of all retailers carrying the Gamecube have sold out.

Obviously you cant read...

I said the GC and Xbox combined have sold more than Sony did in 6 months. I guess I should have been a little more clear on which 6 months. The first 6months of their launch. Obviously you are the only one that thought I meant total. And no they have SHIPPED 20million, they have sold ~15million WORLDWIDE, to consumers. The GC and Xbox have SHIPPED 1.1million, they have sold around 700,000... Around as much as Sony did after 6 months in the US...

And even if they have sold 20million to consumers worldwide(WHICH THEY HAVE NOT).. There is no way in hell they have 11million PS2's in surplus for the end of this year. OH THATS RIGHT, you left off that by the end of 2002 part... I still have doubts on those numbers of them hitting 31million sold(not shipped) by the end of 2002. They could possible ship 31million, but shipping and selling are entirely different...

Uh that number is no way accurate I was going around looking for that damned DVD remote again. This time I went in person, couple EBs, couple Gamestops and two toystores(Toys R Us and Kaybees) and each had about 5-10 GCs and 10-15 XBoxs(new shippment, or so they said, had of been, they were sold out of Xbox's on the 15).... I was also in Austin on Monday(live in the DFW area), went to Barton Creek Mall(they have 5 game/toy stores) each had plenty of both(Xboxs and GCs), no damn remote though... GC has sold more than Xbox, but by less than 25-30,000. I bet both sell 1.1million before the end of the year...

As IGN has a habit of doing. They miss qouted Nintendo. Nintendo said they think the GC will sellout all of the 700,000 by this weekend. Its possible, but with 300-350,000 sold since launch, I dont think they will hit 700,000 even if it IS the biggest shopping day of the year. The Xbox will sellout, they were close to a sell out the day after launch, but new shipments(which I as mentioned above have confirmed in person) have been delivered to stores, not sure how many more they shipped, I think its in the 75,000 range though, maybe 100,000. Dunno.IGN is wrong again HAR

Ive been trying since the 15, not a dang one in the DFW area, and appears none in the Austin area... Ive had several responses, ranging from we sold out before the Xbox launch, we have them but they are all for preorders, and we never got any. Most in my area are in the "never gotten any", couple were for preorders and a couple sold out. I dunno whoever did the shipping for MS, fubared something...

<< ``The Xbox launch was the best launch I have ever been a part of, and that goes all the way back to launches like that of Nintendo Entertainment System, Super NES, 3DO and Atari,'' said Dan DeMatteo, president of Gamestop Inc. ``It was the first time in recent memory we didn't have to air-ship product to meet the launch date. The momentum continues even after launch. We continue to sell everything we can get.'' >>

<< It (the Xbox launch) was incredible. We had the single largest sales day in Electronics Boutique history Nov. 15. This was a record we thought would take forever to be broken. We have seen a very strong software and accessory attach beyond the first day of sales. Product continues to ship from Microsoft on a very timely basis, and consumers are obviously pleased.'' >>

And the real key part of it all

<< We are still selling software and accessories, even after we continue to sell every console unit we get. Consumers are coming back and buying significant quantities of 'Dead or Alive 3,' 'NFL Fever 2002' and 'Halo.''' >>

Xbox sales..

Heh then again it did come from MS PR, but if they misqouted the Presidents of other companies, IM SURE we will hear about it... Also appears EGM gave Halo a perfect score. Dont follow EGM that much so Im not sure how often they give out perfect scores. I know most mags do it very very rarely, if ever.

Didn't Nintendo ship more consoles? All the places I know are sold out of both the Xbox and GameCube. So with the sales from Japan, I'm guessing the GameCube is winning. And probably will be for a while. I hope they catch up to SONY's big lead.

Well if you count Japan, you can tack on another 350,000-400,000 if that, they have sold ~1/3 of their supply in Japan. Guess we will wait and see how bad Xbox does in Japan, but it appears GC and Xbox arent going to do so hot in Japan..

Both systems have pretty much sold through their initial shipment, which would put XBox at around 350,000 and GCN close to 700,000.

GCN will sell a LOT more consoles in Japan once Super Smash Brothers Melee comes out. The release of Pikmin doubled sales of GCN there. Keep in mind that, until recently, there were only 4 GCn games for sale in Japan.

According to the NPD group from Port Washinton, NY 11050. Who track these things.. The XBOX "sold through" more units ending Tues the 20th.

Nintendo has Always based their sales estimates on what they have shipped, not sell through numbers.

Mind you I am not backing the Xbox here either, as I am sure they did sell through more units since they started earlier, just trying to clear things up a bittle.

I seriously doubt half of the Gamecubes are still sitting on shelves (which is what would have to happen for XBox to have sold through more units). I have yet to see one in any store in my area.

"Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) has released its weekly report on the interactive entertainment industry, this time focusing on the week at retail of November 18-24, the time period which was kicked off by the launch of Nintendo's GameCube.
CSFB analysts estimate that over 469,000 GameCube units were sold during its first week of availability at retail. A total of 810,000 software units were also sold, for a launch tie-in ratio of 1.7?a number which reflects the rather limited selection of titles on hand for the system?s debut. Luigi?s Mansion was the top selling videogame on any platform for the week, moving an estimated 257,000 units.
Xbox console sales for the week were estimated at 186,000 units, bringing the total number of consoles sold to 556,000 units in the nine days the system has been on store shelves. Halo continues to be the top selling game for the Xbox, moving approximately 97,000 units over the November 18-24 time period. The tie-in ratio for the Xbox now sits at 2.4, as a total of 1.32 million titles for the console have been sold."

Looks like the Xbox did outpace the GC... Xbox moved around 191,000 copies of Halo since it was released till Nov 17... So in reality, Halo has outsold Luigis Mansion in total units(well not by much, the next numbers should hit late in the week). It will be interesting to watch as the weekly numbers come out..
