how many controllers can i hook up? i have 3 kids and would stop the fighting before it happens by having more than two controllers.

what games are there for more than 2 players?

Get your xbox modded, then you can store the games on a bigger HD in the xbox, and not have to worry about your kids messing up the disks.

if they are that young, why not get them a gamecube? that system is geared more towards children, and it has 4 controller ports on the console as well. not to mention many of their games are designed for the 'party game' genre, and having very kiddy themes in them.

if your kids were 13, 15, and 17, then I would say get an xbox. but not for 11,8, and 5 year olds. i would go with the cube. and its cheaper.

Have you considered a Gamecube? Nothing against the xbox (I actually own all 3 current systems), but for multiplayer and especially kids, the Gamecube is so much better (except for FPS). Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, Mario Party, Mario Golf/Tennis are good examples. Plus many great kid-friendly games like Mario Sunshine.

Not trying to start a which system is better flame war here. :)

Ditto that, Gamecube would be great for kids that age, has some games for the older one too, like metroid prime, etc. But overall I like xbox the best, :p

Xbox has Shrek Super Party, Finding Nemo (1 player), and ummm not much hehe... Yah Gamecube would be a better console for kids and family oriented games. I loved Mario Kart and Tennis on N64... Hrmm how much is Gamecube now?

Do you have a Target nearby? They have a platinum gamecube that comes with 2 controllers AND Mario Kart for $99. Great deal!

Edit: Make sure that you get 2 more controllers so that you can have your 5 year old school you at mario kart on chistmas morning ;)

Definitely go for the Cube. Eventhough it is geared more towards kids, there are some great games that aren't. Metroid Prime, Need For Speed Underground, SSX Series and Resident Evil 4 to name just a few.
