Xbox quality control sucks. *EDIT*

StageLeft

No Lifer
Nov 02 bought an Xbox with the S controller. About a year later the S controller started demonstrating "issues". Basically a button or two would start acting very erratically and the problem could be solved only by rebooting. It took me hours to figure out exactly what was going on because of how stupid this problem was.

Then also about a year after purchase the drive is very iffy now. Frequently it says it can't read disk when I turn it on and I have to reboot, and sometimes in the middle of a game I'll get a disc read error.

My PS2 at least lasted two years before the POS controller port died.

EDIT: Replacement Lens Has anybody experience with, or know where to find info on, whether this is likely to sort me out? The description in that sale definitely seems to indicate a defective lens on my end...

<-- still loving the original controller. No problems at all. Also bought a MadCatz controller of about the same size/build... no issues with that either.

My Nov 02 XBOX is running great also. These things happen.. just like cars aren't all perfect no matter the manufacturer.

Yeah I have a madcatz controller which I now use. I'm just a bit pissed that of the last two consoles I bought both have freaking breaked. It's not like I mistreat these or even play them all that much. I know that the original nes or snes would run for 24/7 for years on end. I think that these newer consoles rather suck for quality, and unlike most other things I'd seriously consider an extended warranty next time.

The people at costco say the bad from stock and first month return for defect is high with them things..

My controller acts a little funny every now and then, but I just unplug/replug and it's good to go. Knock on wood, my drive has never had a problem reading disks. Yippee.

ive had my xbox since it came out no problems yet, well i did brake the clip on the hsf but that was my falt.

Had mine for a little over two years now. Never had a single problem.

As with any product, there's going to be a failure rate. Has nothing to do with their QC sucking. It's the nature of man made products. Nothing is perfect.

Not so fast there. I'll be the first to say that the GC is the best console out there, but I purchased TWO DOA GC's before I got one that worked. That really pissed me off. Then when I wrote a letter to nintendo complaining, I got a call from an idiot tech support person a month later patronizing me by telling me that I must have hooked it up incorrectly and that "she was here to hold my hand through the setup process."

Oh man that would annoy me 🙂 If you can't hook up a gamecube you've got terrible problems!

I have two and they both work fine. There are some screws loose in the the launch one I guess because if you touch or move it while it is on, it makes louch clanking sounds. I have read tons of threads to know that the Xbox quality control isn't the best but it could be worse. I have never heard of an official controller breaking without excessive abuse. I have had two controllers break and they were both 3rd party.

Unlike SNES controllers, I've never taken my S controller by the cord and zinged it into the ground. I really did not abuse it. It smiply just broke!

I had 2 PS2s up and die on me and countless other people try and sell me PS2s that died (hoping I was dumb enough to buy them)

I don't play my Xbox all the time, but I do use it frequently and I do like to abuse my controllers. I've had no problems at all with any of the equiptment besides the controller bruising my hand sometimes.

I've yet to have any issues with either my Xbox or PS2, only a broken controller on the PS2 by me slamming it into the ground in anger. My roommates Xbox was giving the Read Disc error from time to time and I just ejected the CD Tray and used a compressed Air can to "blow" it out and its worked fine ever since then, it ended up being just dust causing his issues.

All my controllers work fine. BTW, the S controller blows imho. My console itself - I think the network card in my XBox is slightly defective and the drive may be iffy. My old one worked fine before I FRAG'ed it.

I took the POS apart and blew air directly onto the lens, but it still hassels me. A spare drive or laser assembly from ebay may be the ticket, but they're not cheap at all.

I'd reccomed you buy a new dvd drive rather than go through
the hassle of installing a new lens.

Either that or mod you xbox and store your games on the hdd.

bought my PS2 the day they came out countless times has it been on for over 72 hours straight i've played well over 500 DVD's on it and many many many hours of gaming, still works like new, I love my PS2
