I am planning to buy a XBOX / PS2 for one of my cousins.

I am unable to decide which one to buy, as i have no idea what are the pros and cons of each. Need your inputs on these.

Also one fundamental doubt that i have is can a PS2 game be played on a XBOX?

Thanks in advance.

the games are not cross compatible, or at least not with stock consoles =D.

i would buy an XBOX solely for Halo 2, but i'm not sure what type and rating of games is appropriate for you. Personally, regardless of Halo 2, i would suggest an XBOX, as it it just a much more versitle console IMO.

xbox --

ps2 requires you to buy many accesories such as memory cards / network adapters... etc. And only has hookups for 2 controllers.

the xbox does not require memory cards, has a built in hard drive and network card, and 4 ports for controllers.

the games for the two systems are comparable... xbox is slightly more capable as far as graphics go.

my vote is for xbox.

I have a ps2, xbox, and gamecube.
Forget the gamecube even with their stellar 1st party games.
Forget the ps2, even with their GTA: San Andreas and DDR.
Go Xbox. It's just the most powerful system around with great games and Internet connectivity.

Also, the XBOX holiday bundle with Top Spin and NCAA 2005 free is a really good deal.

Anand did a review of Xbox, PS2, and Game Cube when they were introduced, and concluded that the Xbox and Game Cube were far superior to the PS2. Of course, I've noted from the earlier days of console gaming that higher quality doesn't mean people will want it. Usually you have certain games you want to play, and you get the console that supports those games.

graphics, hardware and all that stuff are great, but ultimately you use the system to play games. Take a look at the library for each system and make your decision there. It doesn't make sense to get an xbox with all its power if it doesn't play the games you want it to play. Same for PS2, or pretty much anything for that matter.

Winner. Find out what games / genres they're interested in, and choose accordingly. Insanely fast graphics and multiplayer won't mean much when the game they're dying to play isn't available for console X.
